Has anybody ever heard of Mobil 1 V-Twin synthetic oil screwing up the clutch on a Roady? A buddy of mine had a dealer tell him it was toooooo slick for the clutch linings. Thoughts?

last summer after I got my bike ..i wnated the dealer to go thru it and fix, adjust, and replace anyhting that the bike might need......including and oil change..and he said the same thing about synthetic oil......and said Yamaha recomended Yamaha oil......as it would mess with the clutch
but i hvae learned here that it may not be the case

All Yamaha dealers are going to tell you you must run Yamalube. I have run the Mobil 1 in alot of my bikes (probably b/c thats what the Autozone close to my house sells) and have never had an issue. I purchased a new boat last year with a Yamaha outboard and the dealer told me the same thing. I did let them talk me into doing the first 20 hour service just to make sure everything was doing what it was supposed to - plus I had a steering issue they were fixing under warranty, but I just bought all the stuff to do the 100 hour service and saved ALOT!!!!

Craig, I recommend you don't believe the stealership (they HAVE to promote their product after all). Mobil 1 syn has been running in my scoot about two years now without a hitch. As long as whatever you use doesn't contain "friction inhibitors" in it, you're fine.

I just checked their website and it says. Mobil 1 V Twin has the proper frictional characteristics necessary for wet clutch eng/trans systems.

I have been running Mobil 1 in my Roady with no issues. He had clutch problems within 6000 miles of starting with the Mobil 1. The dealer is selling him a synthetic Yamalube for about $13.00 a quart. I checked the qualities of the Mobil oil before I started using it and it meets or exceeds. The dealer told him there was one ingredient in Mobil 1 that would damage the cluch pack. He also told him he could probably drain and refill and his clutch would be OK. Seems to me it is either damaged or not.

All I've ever run is the Mobil 1 V-Twin. I mean, it says right on it "made for wet clutch applications"...it's JASO/MA rated...no friction modifiers...what's the problem, Mr. Dealer? That they sell it at Wal Mart for $8 a quart?
Actually, the Wally World near me stopped carrying the V-Twin and have the synth Mobil 1 "GT" or "Racing" oil instead. Still JASO/MA, still says designed for wet clutches...only difference is that it's 10W40 instead of 20W50. If I can't find anyone else in town that sells the V-Twin, I might give to GT stuff a try next time...

What a crock!! Wonder what other lies come from the dealer?? I don't even use motorcycle specific, use Mobil 1 auto 15/50w, so after 106k miles in 5yrs, I should check my see if I'm slipping? I still have stock clutch plates too.

This is really funny I did a search and US yamalube is made by Citgo hold on it gets better. Ask who makes Citgo and it is Exon who makes Mobile one V-Twin. Exon list both labels in their product line. Sooooo does that tell you anything about the dealer. I would sure want to know where my products are coming from. Not saying they are the exact same formula but I would bet they are really close. Citgo label makes many of today brand oil HD, Kawasaki, Yamaha to name a few according to articles I found in a search.
Just what I came up with on a quick search.
