Junior Boarder Posts: 145 How do you get all the oil out of the Roadie. 2 Years, 6 Months ago   I am doing a complete oil change, and switching to Synthetic Oil. How do you get 100% of the oil out of the crankcase, and the oil reservoir? Anything that doesn't drain out, you'll be ok with the dilution factor. I would just drain both plugs and the filter and fill with your Syn oil. Thats what most people who have switched do with no problems. Only use 4qts to fill, especially on the 1700 engines, there has been a tech bulletin on oil levels being to high and a possible cause to sticky valves. Myself, I use auto Mobil 15/50w and the walmart super tech filter. 6, 7k miles, change. There are many many synthetics much cheaper than that. It was due for a change, but I'm letting the dealer change the oil and filter with whatever they use, I'll take it a couple hundred miles, before switching to full synth. I wouldn't put strait top end synth in over top of gunked up dino. Yeah you know the $8.00 stuff vs the $13.00 Personally when I changed mine over I just drained it like normal changed the filter and put in the synthetic. I have over 68,000 on mine. She'll pump that other quart right out in no time. I know this because I have done it. I wouldn't recommend doing this on a consistent basis. Can't wait to hear if that makes it into the Yamaha manual... H I did think of that, I guess it is no different than starting up the bike after an oil change to get the reservoir oil into the bike.
