between top offs? are you actually calculating, or is that a guess? Pilot screw is on bottom of carb, look under tech articles, there are pics showing where it is. Was the bike jetted for air kit and pipes? a gas smell at idle is usually a indication that the pilot ckt is too rich

Check your float needle and seat. If you notice any little wear grooves at the tip of the needle replace both needle and seat. Check your float level, sounds to me like your level is a little too high. Hence the raw gas smells.

Just realized I didn't answer the questions sorry. Had v&h power shots on when I bought it airfilter appears stock and have no clue about jetting. Dealer I bought it from only seen the bike when the guy traded it in. But it has only 15k on it and is s 07

it didn't need jetting for pipes only, needs it for a different air kit. If the brass cover on the pilot screw is gone, then probably they jetted. then you'll have to open it to see what they did, some will replace pilot jet as well as main jet, stock pilot jet is fine, just needs to be tweaked for after market pipes.

I got 45mpg with my 06 silverado with aftermarket pipes & it's been jetted too but still has the stock air filter & airbox.
I was very easy on the throttle for the tank of fuel i got 45mpg on which was a mix of in town and open road riding never cruising over approx 60-65mph just to see what the best it could do mpg wise in mixed driving.
But under more normal driving conditions i expect to get approx 38-40mpg on avg when using more throttle when going thru the gears getting up to speed then i did for the gas mileage test.
I felt 45mpg was good in mixed driving for a lrg 1700cc v-twin motor ,my 77 kawasaki kz1000 gets a smidge over 50mpg even riding 2up with the wifie pooh on the back,it gets 52-53mpg with only me on it.
But i cant expect the R* with a lot bigger motor and more weight to do better then the lighter kawi with smaller motor when it comes to mpg.

You guys got me to thinking about my mileage on my 03, stock everything and a Memphis Shade Batwing. Went for a 120 mile ride today, two up with a group. tried to maintain 60 mph, mostly highway. Topped off afterwards and calculated the mileage at 46.5 mpg. I guess this is about average from what I'm reading.

46.5 mpg is a good place to be.
I normally get 45 mpg, mostly city some highway, and I think my carb is a bit on the rich side.
