I was getting 25-30mpg and couldn't figure out why. turns out cylinder 2 was dead... Just a thought.

I used allen heads in the last engine build i did. on the test run spun 3 bearings. pulled it apart and stripped about 50% of the allen heads. Very frustrating, had to grind slots for flathead in them. I prefer phillips heads personally with my impact screwdriver. Makes everything so much easier. Extremely easy to strip them by hand.

OK I don't even want to think about a dead cylinder .

Now as as far as me getting into the carb, I am still at a loss, someone mentioned going back to stock, ok how do I do that? do I need to find different stock jets and have them on hand in case I really can get into it without breaking something??, or BAK looking at prices for that is 250 bucks plus, being without a job thats prob not gonna happen, but then I see one for a 1600 for 124 bucks, how much difference is there between the 1600 and 1700, will it work on mine or am I just hoping and if I put on a BAK what is that gonna do to my original problem of poor gas milage? Yeah I know this may sound like I am an idiot and I am really starting to think I just might be.

If you want to come down to Greenville, SC we can tear it apart and get it right.

I would bet if you just tore into and found out how simple the carbs on these bikes are you would realy be surprised. The hardest part is if the bowl screws haven't been replaced (and they are on the outside). Once inside it is a very simple concept. Plus like already mentioned there are enough good guys on this site that we could walk you through it. I have a bunch of jets and needles for these carbs so if you get the nerve to tear into it let me know if you need something.

ok went and did it, looking at the bottom of the carb and the four philips heads have been removed at some point as they were a little tore up, I think flash mentioned that, now when I get that chamber off what should I be looking for then numbers or what??????

From the tech tips article I think what I am looking at is the main jet and it has a 175 on it only one with a number that I can see

This is a picture of the stock Mikuni 182.5 jet and stock needle I took out of mine. All Mikuni jets have that little box marking on them, so I'd guess you have Dynojet jets in there. If you look at the jet comparison chart in the Tech Articles section here, a DJ 175 is WAY leaner than the stock jet. The DJ 175 is what I'm running to compensate (lean it out) for my 6,700 ft. altitude.

The stock needle is fat and only has one groove as you can see. what does yours look like?
