I've got a Dell with Vista and I hate the Vista. I like the Dell brand and had windows ME. I've had this one alittle over a year so i'll use it for now. I've been wondering how the new windows 7 would be.

Mac. I am an Artist and was running a PC. The Mac suits me much better. My friend gave me his Imac flat screen for a trade for a piece. I gotta tell you I love the ease, simplicity, and genius mac put into there programs. For me, I find it much easier to learn new things and to navigate programs on. It is very user friendly and I have been very pleased with it! Also starts up quickly, and In the 8 months running it have never encountered a virus. Don't think I'll ever get a PC again...

PC. the whole idea in my mind of a PC is to have many companies fighting with one another to give you the fastest, cheapest hardware (PC not MAC) and then have the biggest installed base so that all the best software is written to it (PC, not MAC) and of course there is the whole subject of games (PC not mac).

have to fess up, I now work for MS, but even before I did, I was a PC person because I like economics working for me! (which is why I bought a Star and not an HD)

Curious about Linux. I understand the open source concept but have never actually played with it (not a real techie ). My nephew runs almost exclusively Linux (super computer techie) and he loves it. There's so many versions out there which one would be the best for a newbie?

Its good stuff, but particularly for uber geeks. There is nothing you can't do with it and all the software you could ever want or need is free (like linux). Downside is it has a learning curve, and its not uncommon to have to tweek something to make it work on your machine. Upside is it is 99% fixable when you have a problem.

It has a learning curve. Your best bet is to find and download a windows version of Sun's VirtualBox (also free) and install the linux into virtual machines you create with VirtualBox.

I recommend Ubuntu, or Mint. Both are very good. There are a lot of good ones out there right now.

With very few exceptions (there are PC emulators in Linux) PC based software runs better in true Windows. Wise decision.

I am an ex IT person (19 years) and have two Cpmpaq servers, and 3 workstaions two lap tops and 4 printers. I started in the Novell world if any of you know what that is. Finally Windows crept in and that is where I am now. I just stuck with what I knew and I built a few workstaions from scratch thru the years. I haven't messed with it in a couple of years so I have no clue what is best any more.

Novell? I have a client (Lawyer) who is still running a Novell server I built him almost 10 years ago on a token ring network. Cheepskate won't upgrade until it's DOA.

Just built an I7 (Intel) based system on an Intel MOBO and loaded windows 7 pro 64 bit, holly crap that is one awesome system and FAST! Used 8 gig of Ram and an Nvida G9500 1gb video card. Windows 7 loaded in under 8minutes from start to finish.

There is a Linux CD you can buy that you boot up your PC with and it boots right into Linux and you can surf and email and do what ever you want, once you shut down, you pull the CD and there is NO trace of anything you did on the computer, no a thread. Perfect for those of you who want to try Linux.

I'm not using this thread to find buyers from you guys (except maybe Greyphart ) But I wanted to research WHY people buy the computers that they do. I hope to hone my sales skills.

Mac's are the way to go if you do graphics or desktop publishing, without question.
