I had a '72 Skylark back in 76, it had roughly 24K miles on it. . .I switched to a "fad" oil called "ARCO Graphite". . .it did increase my mileage to about 24 MPG (from 18) I told my dad about that and he put it in his pickup which had 75K miles on it. . . .within a month he had to rebuild his 350 (Same motor as the Skylark). . .seems that the graphite loosened all the 'gunk' around the main bearings. . . .Moral of this story. . . Gunk isn't all bad!

I switched from dino to synthetic when I bought my '01 at 7K. . .I had always heard that it runs cooler and you get better "protection".
