I saw an article years ago in one of those florida bike mag:........ it had a picture of a tool? somebody came up with ... the filter was off, and the tool was screwed into the filter hole with a section of clear plastic tube attached to it going into an oil pan....I don,t know if there was a one way valve in the tool?? ..I think there must have been....anyway the idea was to fill the bike up with new oil ... run it for a few seconds until clean oil showed up in plastic tube.....STOP ENGINE! take off tool
and install new filter!! as we know you do not lose much oil when engine ain,t running!!!
anybody remember this article??

Never heard of that article or tool, but you can use the suction tube that most boaters use, it's just a long tube that goes down your dipstick tube and then you start a vacuum with the pump and it sucks out all the oil.

Me, I just remove the seat and dip stick, pick the bike up and turn it over; oil drains right out of the dip stick hole no problem, but you have to be careful or you will get some oil on your shirt. Try holding it out away from you when you do this. Don't ask me how I know.  |

Mity Vac makes a suction unit with different size poly tubes for all kind of liquids. I bought one a few yrs ago, it hold a few gallons and hooks up to an air comp. Or they make a hand pump unit.

I've done the start up after all the oil is out thing, When you have outstanding oil in there, you can do that no worry.
However, one sure way is just change the oil every 2000 miles, OM says 4 right? So if you do it every two, No oil would ever be in there totally more than 2000 miles old.
This problem is now solved, anyone wanting to order the Amsoil every 2K miles PM me!  |

Yeah, I saw the same thing. The compay is Rogue Chopper Products. Interesting idea, but they only do them for H-D's.

I,ve been retarded.. oops! I MEAN retired to long, memory ain,t my strong point..??
I wonder if by looking at a used harley oil filter, a brand name say? the flange (threaded) part, is the same as a RS? .. All oil filters (spin on style} seem to be N.P.T.?? just like petcocks that screw into a gastank?
(Iam talking motorbikes now) cause I maybe wrong!!
anyway perhaps that "oil flushing attachment" would work on a RS?.... and take away the risk of running engine with no oil ??
this is an idea for the original post....personally I ain.t that {paticular)...just drain it..and shove in 3-4 quarts!...thing I like about my Roadie.. it ain,t no rocket science..(oops Iam in trouble again??!!}

When I last did this, long ago....... I drained the oil, then started the bike for 2 seconds, Not much came out so I took a rubber ball and drilled a hole into it and put it on the oil inlet and then put pressurized air to it. Not much more came out, then, I took a strap and anchored it to the side of the shop ceiling and hooked it to the bike and leaned it over using the 10 ton strap and a hi lift jack, not much more came out, So I wonder if it's even worth it. I didn't think so because I never did all that crap again.
Who drained the oil then rebuilt the engine? They would know whats left in there.

Man MS1700, you are persistent! I tried pressuring up a dry sump system once...only once... I blew 4 quarts of synthetic all over the shop floor when a seal let go. I had the Mobil Valdez going on. Mental note: Don't try that again! I know everyone would love to get all the oil out, but it just ain't worth it. In all the years I been working on cars, race cars and motorbikes I have yet to see a single oil related failure. Not one. Heat related? Several. So an oil cooler might be a wise investment. IMHO the big issue is regular changes and don't worry about it.

Problem with oil coolers, they work when ya movin. imo, too many people try to tune this monster for economy, go too lean and you end up with excessive heat.
