Problems with 03 Roadstar. Need advice 2 Years, 6 Months ago
When I get on it through the gears at the higher RPM's it cuts out and looses power. I pull to the side of the road and it sounds like it is starving for fuel. I changed the fuel filter and the pick up coil. It has a Dyna 3000 ignition and a Hyper charger on it. It also does it in a stiff head wind. Any ideas?

Sure your not hitting the rev limiter? What gear and speed does this happen at? What rpm do you have the dyna set for? Is this something that just started to happen? Make any changes recently, do any work on the bike?

Go to the forum search box and type in "missing at high reves" and read the post from bikerbob2. That may be your problem and solution.

If it's anything like my truck; if a pick-up coil goes bad it won't even start because it isn't getting spark/fire at all. Is it a momentary cut-out with a recovery or is it a cut-out and die. If it's momentary possible rev-limiter or plug(s). If it's dieing start at the top check fuel cap vent, fuel valve, fuel filter. Remember the fuel valve and the fuel intake tube of the carb have factory plastic fuel filters that can get clogged easily (I got rid of both). If all that checks out fine next is inside; possible float/fuel level, or jets. good luck, and take care.

Is the gas cap vented? If not try that.

Sounds like a fuel starvation issue as it's also happening when you have a stiff headwind.

You don't give any specifics on your bike so ....

If you have the stock fuel system then check ...

- clogged fuel filters
- plugged vent tube
- fuel pump doesn't work
- fuel pump relay not working
- incorrect jetting ... probably main jet

Lastly .... the Dyna 3000 is bad ... just stick the stock one back in to check.

I switched the fuel pump with a different one and it did the same thing. I am going to pull the carb and check the filters. The main fuel filter at the pump was changed. When it starts to cutout it will die all the way. I am really leaning towards the fuel problem. The Dyna 3000 is brand new and it did it with the stock module in. I have not done any work on the carb but I think I may re-jet it while it is out.

I don't know if it is or not. I have not done it myself.

I am pretty sure it is not hitting the rev limiter because it will not come back to normal. The bike dies even when I pump the throttle.

Is the rollover valve still on it? They will clog up and give the symptom you describe. It was on Doc's list.
