Credit Company? 2 Years, 6 Months ago
Still trying to figure out this problem I have been having with this scam situation. I talked to them the other day and confronted them with the fact that they advertised to be with my credit card company and that I contacted them and they had never heard of this Great American Reader. When I told them that they said no... we said we were with your credit company.

With that said, how do I determine my "credit company"? I am wanting to find out who my "credit company" is so that I can contact them by phone, see if they deal with them. If it turns out to be true, I want to know why they release my credit report to someone like that without my permission, then confront them and possibly threaten them with legal action for violating my privacy. I apologize for the continuous rant about my situation. I am just trying to get to the bottom of this whole situation. Thanks in advance.

I think it's time you get a lawyer involved, properly document everything and record all phone conversations. Might end up being a "Class Action" suit. It's going to cost you a few bucks, but I think you would be better off with legal assistance.

Some lawyers might tell you to just cancel the credit card and move on, but an aggressive lawyer will take it and try to get you your money back.

...we said we were with your credit company. What the heck is that supposed to mean?
If you get an attorney do your homework. Check with the ABA for the lawyers track record (complaints, etc.), the BBB, state consumer protection agency and maybe people you know who've dealt with this credit outfit. Sometimes negative publicity will work wonders in putting an issue to rest. My 2 cts. Hope you get a resolution that's satisfactory and don't break your wallet.

I haven't lost any money. I cancelled the credit card thirty minutes after getting off the phone with them. I talked to these people the other day and advised them that I was not going to pay a penny and that I had contacted the state attorneys office and filed 2(at the time) complaints. I was waiting to hear from them. It would take about 2 more weeks before they would get to my complaint. I said that the only way I was going to pay is if the state attorney says I have to. I asked that they stop calling until I hear from the state attorney. As soon as I received a call from them I would contact them with what they said. GAR said that they were still going to call everyday regardless. I have a friend who is an attorney. I have talked to her about it, when all this first happened. I guess it is time I give her another call.

Not much you can do about that except ignore the calls. But if they are found wrong it may be a case for harrassment by you.
I have a friend who is an attorney.
It's nice to have friends like that.
BTW who are these people (GAR)? Just in case some one here ever crosses their path.

just go to google and type in Great American Reader. All that is going to show up is complaints. I also checked with the BBB, filed a complaint, and found that they are not accredited with them. They have been in business since since 11-2008 and have an unsatisfactory rating. I believe there have been approx 34 complaints filed with the BBB. But just type in Great American Reader on google and you will find all the info that you need about them. I am just concerned that they have some way to alter a voice recording to make them look good and make it sound like I may have said something I really didn't say. Just thinking that with all the technology these days, it just may be possible

According to a recent investigation by our local newspaper the BBB is not your friend. Merchants pay their way onto the good guy list and if a complaint is filed against them they can pay to keep it off their record. They even have to pay just to be listed with no endorsements or complaints. Certainly opened my eyes.

Re:Credit Company? 2 Years, 6 Months ago
Well whata ya know. They called as late as 8:44 pm last night. Then again this morning at 8:44 a.m. Needless to say the conversation didn't go so well for them. I confronted the guy and said "what do you mean you are with the credit company"? He said I have never heard of such a thing. I said exactly, so the way you supposedly tried to sale me something was illegal, using illegal sales practices. He kept cutting me off. I kept trying to talk and he would cut me off constantly and I told him I am tired of being the nice guy, and I just let in on him. He said they had reported me to collections the day I tried to cancel. I said that was illegal and that I could also sue them for harrasment. He says sir we are only trying to help you. I said no your not, you can go screw yourself and let your mother watch. I asked how him boyfriend liked him working such late hours and how does he sleep at night. I also told him he needs to get a real job instead of scamming money off people. I am working 3 jobs to make ends meet. Apparently he didn't like it and hung up. Probably wont hear anything from him again today but ready to fight back again tomorrow.
