Only thing wrong with that picture is that beautiful, purple ROADSTAR ain't in my garage!
My Silverado's windshield has a "made in USA" sticker on it. Came that way from Yamaha Corp.

Yeah, it's funny to hear people talk about buying American while they're driving around in thier foreign made Chevy/GMC/Ford pickups too.
Most of the Toyota's sold here are made here, even the Tundra is built in Texas. Most of thier suppliers and parts are from here too. Yes, they're foreign owned and I'm not a huge Toyo fan, but I think it's interesting that the company's giving Americans jobs aren't the ones going around saying 'buy American'.
It's not about what it is. It's about what you can get people to think it is. It's all in the perception. Marketing to the ignorant masses.
Done with my soapbox. Next.

I love google.... Gottfried Daimler’s patent on the V Twin engine design back in 1889 and the first V Twin motor was made by Glen Curtis in 1903 followed ABC company J.A.P.inn 1905(which doesn't really count cause it's a horizontally opposed V Twin)then followed by Indian (Hendee Manufacturing Co.) in 1906 with the first VTwin production motorcycle...THEN Harley.

Sorry, I just can't ever get past their arrogance about their product and price. It's almost the only showroom where I get told basically "that's the price, take it or leave it". Until recently when I looked at the the Fury which was marked up $1,500 over msrp. and was told "limited production, nothing else like it". Ride what you want and what you can afford/take care of. But I think you would be very hard pressed to beat the value of the Roadie. Just me .02

You are quite right, Flashback. You can tell the difference in the way the dies run. We get some Japanese steel at work on occaison. Parts that have extrusions on them are more evenly formed, compaired to the parts made with domestic steel.
If someone buys a Harley, I just thank them for keeping me in a job....... ( we make the starters for the bikes where I work..... a Japanese owned company, building parts in the US )

I don't even argue with HD owner's... you really can't anyway, and I don't want to burst their bubble. Anything else isn't a real bike, blah, blah, blah... The attitude bothers me and I have to leave.
HDs sure are really pretty, with all the shiney chrome. I've ridden a few. They ride nice; and when I can afford one I may wind up with a Ultra Classic in my garage. They do retain their value better. Get a new 2010 R*... how much, $13K for a Silverado, looses half its value in 3 years, worth what, $6K or less in about 3 years. Buy a new HD, pick your model (except a sportster), for $20K and they're still worth like $17K in 3 years. So maybe a HD isn't a bad investment?
All my cages are made by American companies, with parts from everywhere. I have a Chevy, a Lincoln, and a Dodge. I can't buy a japanese car, they all look the same to me.
My motorcycle is Japanese. Honestly, most of the big twin HDs look the same to me.

Actually the value retaining factor used to ring true. Now you can pick up say a 3 year old (to use your example) Road King for 10-12K. So you have lost 10K. Buy a new Road Star and unless you wreck it you should never lose 10K. I speak from first hand experience...in 2007 I got invited to a charity ride down to key west. I was between bikes at the time and found a used Road King at the local daler for 12K. I wasn't in the position to pay cash so once all the numbers were worked my payment was going to be $350 per month. The salesman says "for $20 more per month I can get you a brand new Road King". Well I had a major brain fart and got caught up in that new bike smell - so I signed my name and rode home on my new Road King. I did the charity ride and just didn't feel right on it. Don't get me wrong it is one of the most comfortable bikes out there, but I have always had custom bikes and felt like a F'n New Guy on this new stock bike. So I decided to sell it after tallying up what it would cost to make it "fit" my style. Now keep in mind the bike is 3 months old at this point with just under 3,000 miles. Long story short it was all I could do to get 15K out of it. I lost 6K in 3 months. My wife still punches me everytime we see a Road King! I will NEVER buy a new bike every again!
