Seafoam question 2 Years, 7 Months ago
|
|
I have an 05 silverado and in the interest of preventative maintenance I have been reading about SVS and seafoam. I see that some guys are adding some seafoam in every tank. How much are you guys running in each tank, and why are you not having to change the oil if you do have to with the SVS treatment? Is it that the smaller dose is not going to do what the bigger dose would to the motor if not removed?

Most folks add a couple of oz's to the tank every so often just for a preventative measure, With the svs treatment, you add it directly into the engine until it kills it. it then sits for a while and melts the carbon off. this melting action can contaminate the oil. so yep your right...

I use Lucas..... add about 3 oz per tank. Might not do any good but I think it does and that is what counts.

Oh yea.... the reason I put 3 oz per tank is very technical...... that is the size of the bottle I had, soooooo that is the amount I put per tank.

So;
What do you think is the better method? Put 5-6 oz. of seafoam in a tank or use the SVP, What exactly do you do with it? (not familiar with SVP).
Also after the seafoam, how necessary do you think it is to change the oil?

This is really weird...I logged on with the intent of starting a thread about Sea Foam with some questions and here I find this one already started
I've got some SVS now Worked it out with a shock treatment of about 5 oz. in a tank and going way leaner on the jetting, but the other day it acted up again, only a few rides after changing my oil
But here's my question: I've seen the Sea Foam spray discussed.....deep creep is it?.....I dunno, but I've never seen it in a store. Can I just use a little spray bottle of regular Sea Foam and get the same results?

For all wanting to know how much to use read the instruction on the bottle if you don't have SVS and just want to prevent it. I use 4 oz to a full tank. For those that have SVS you can download the cure that works from my site. The link is to the top left of my sig picture. Go to the projects button and click, on the second page scroll to the bottom and download the documentation and read all of it.

Personally, I use Seafoam for shock treatments (whole can of Seafoam in a tank of gas + ride it like ya stole it AND are mad at it ) only and I do one before every scheduled oil change and at the end of the riding season.
For preventative measures and plain ol' kindness to my motor, I use 1-2 ounces of MMO in every tank of gas. When I got the bike in 2006, it had a BAD case of SVS. After properly jetting it and using the above procedures, it hasn't come back.
My 2 cents...
