This should be good!

No one's going to argue that a plugged tire is more dangerous than one that is not in this thread.

But my offer still good about taking his tire and running it out and letting him know how many miles I got out of it.

Far more dangerous is that 99.9% of riders jump on having never checked the air pressure much less checked the whole tire for things like nails. By time a tire goes flat from a nail, it's most likely been there for weeks.
The danger is in not paying attention to the tires like you should. I'd rather pay close attention to a plugged tire than run a new one like it's invincible. Yea yea yea, everyone does that but no one will admit it.

I seen lunch meat with more tread than your rear

Since I have tubes, I've used tires that got nails in them, both times tires had less than 3k at the time, and nails went thru thickest part of the tread, and also had the tire plugged. I do know a few people who have plugged tires and they were no worse for the wear.

Thanks for all the input - I am going to give it a try and keep an eye on the pressure. The nail went in in the thickest part of the tread so that should help.

MS1700 - I will be glad to send you the old tire and you can see how many miles are left!

Yea I plugged mine a week after install, Went to Lake of the Ozarks, two up, lightning speed, loaded, max air. I also did a 3K mile trip in 8 days, all south, over 90 whole trip, 2 up, fully loaded for a week and lots of other 100 - 200 mile days.

I'd of mounted that tire and wore that dab blame thhhhnnnaag out!

All depends on the hole, where it's at and what it done. Keep a close eye on it and the pressure. If it don't lump out around the entry point and it don't lose air. Keep running it.

But the tire man will take you off the Christmas card list.

Personally, I would only plug a tire as an "emergency fix" to get the Roadie home or to a service center. Bad things happen when you get a blowout at speed!

I carry a homegrown plug repair kit with me always. Including air (duh). In 220,000 miles of riding , I have plugged 7 tires (not all mine). I have only personally tossed one tire that I plugged , the rest I rode till it was time for a new one. That's just me though. BB

Oh yeah I saw that Deluxe on the 2010 list. My local dealer has '06, '07 & '08's at rock bottom prices. Just don't want to do a loan right now. Paid $8400 cash for my new leftover'07 R* last year. He'll give me $6k for it now as a trade. Ouch.
