Don't throw away that damaged chrome! 2 Years, 6 Months ago
I am sure this has been done before, but I haven't seen it. I had a chrome master cylinder cover that came on my bike. The chrome was totally pitted and chipping. So here is what I did. I sanded the piece down with some 180 grit sandpaper until it just removed the shine off the rest of the chrome. I then primed it with some good high build automotive primer and wetsanded it till it was fairly smooth (I could still just barely see the low spots in the chrome where the pitted areas where). You can repeat that step until it is perfectly smooth if you want to paint it or what I did was sprayed it with Duplicolor bed liner coating. Duplicolor doesn't have that real deep grain to it. It gives it kind of a hammered look which is perfect for hiding small imperfections. I did not get a before pic, but believe me I have thrown away better looking parts in the past...never again though!

To tell, the truth I would go with that finish over chrome any day. I don't mind a few chrome bits but I hate to clean and polish.
Good job! I like it!

Thanks guys! The only problem now is I like it so much I am looking at other parts on the bike to do. I think a midnight star with a few accents like this would look great!

No afraid it wouldn't do me any good anyways. Just trying to make do with what I have without spending a fortune on this thing. It is kind of cool to try to put one together as cheap as possible. I see you got a new sig pic. Got that pic thing down pat now huh?
