NGK iridium plugs garbage 2 Years, 6 Months ago
So, after using autolite 4164 for over 100k miles, decide to try the NGK iridiums since so many said they had good results. after about a month of use started to get an abnormal vibration, so of course ruled the plugs out since they were basically new and only had about 1500 miles on them. Wasn't suspension because vibes would also happen in neutral, so started to look for carb issues, well, lo and behold, my carbs accelerator pump ckt was failing, took care of that issue....still the bad vibration........hmmm, then started to get some real minor decel popping, just enough to tell me air leak, come to find out I did not seat the carb completely in the manifold boot and clamp was a bit off kilter, ok, got that fixed...still the bad vibration, so much that this past Saturday ride, right hand went numb.

This morn, went back to my autolites plugs........vibrations gone!!!

Hard to believe that the plugs broke down that quickly, oh well, live and learn.

I also have been using the 4164 for almost 2 with no problems.
I just ordered a set of the "NEW" Autolite iridium plugs to try.
the part number for these is XS4164,i`ll let you know how it goes.
Should be installing them Veterans Day.

Doggone Erbman. Glad you got the problem fixed, but now you've got me thinking about the new NGKs I just put in last week. Guess I'll have to keep a watch on how mine behave.

I;m pissed too, I don't have money to burn since I've been out of work for 5 months, and at 7 bucks a pop then to only last a few weeks. Has to be something internal, no cracks on insulators, nice color to tip, at least I know my jetting is spot on, and hardly any difference in plug color front to rear, another indication of a well tuned carb with no intake leaks.

Hey Brother,do you think that the plug wire may have not have been all the way down on the plug? Or that it may have worked loose? I have had that happen before. On another note how do you like the Shinko's so far,how are they on wet roads?

Checked that yesterday, made sure plugs were seated, and wires tight. changed plugs this morn and immediately seen the difference. So far so good on the tires, only had a couple hours on wet roads, not much rain this time of yr, next couple months avg rain is a bit over an inch a month.

Checked that and made sure plugs were screwed all the way down. No more issues anymore though. Can't believe one or multiple plugs gave out so soon. Has to be internal, all the plugs outsides look good, no damage to tips, no cracks in porcelain. I'm just gonna stick to the autolites like I've always have.

Re:NGK iridium plugs garbage 2 Years, 6 Months ago
I had mine in all through some very bad SVS where the engine needed to be rebuilt and I asked if it trashed the plugs and they said no - re used them. I didn't like the thought of that after seeing the inside of the engine so I changed them out for new ones....... that was like 16K Miles ago, I just had the plugs out 10 days ago and they were perfect. I have always had troubles with Autolite, go figure. Oh well. I always wonder why people slow to make a recommendation of a product. Thank GOSH I don't have a vibration, that would send me over the same edge a squeak does!
