Progress.....Grab Bar! 2 Years, 6 Months ago
Well it has proved to be much more than I thought to make these up. I got the tubing back from the bender and it was not right. I called him back to fix it but, he said he already lost money on it and won't do any more without more money Oh wells I got a torch so I'm old schooling it.

Here is the first one mocked up with the original in the background. I'm still checking for chroming options.

FYI
Steven

You might check with cycleimage.com they do a heck of job on wheels from what I hear. They're in San Diego. Maybe chrome powder coat... I've seen it on TV looked damn good. my $.02 thought I'd chime in.

Steven - if you haven't checked them out yet, try ChromeMasters -- they seem real fair on their prices. I heard if you send them a picture of the object to be chromed, with a tape measure next to the object to show proportion, they can give you a close estimate price for chroming it.

:-DD.

sounds like what I learned(tube bending).Cheap ain't good & good ain't cheap. The tube bender I was going to use wants $45 a tube.I don't get any kind of price break until 30+ pcs. These guys are good thou. My family's known them for years & they do alot of work for NASA.Add the cost of the stantions($30-35pr) & material costs add up quick. Now add fit up/welding & grinding/polishing & it's hard to break even, let alone make a few$$$. Would anyone have an interest in a grab bar w/ square tube? I can buy sq. tube rings fairly cheap. Not sure how it would look ? I have a job coming up requiring sq. tube rings & will order xtra rings to experiment with. While I haven't given up, w/ resent back surgery & work really picking up, there hasn't been much free time

Yeah, I'm tossing around using solid round (which would be very heavy) or maybe 3/8" flat bar... What do you guys think? I'm still doing this run with tubing but future???

How about solid aluminum round...? you could sell it un-finished relatively cheap and let the buyer polish it...

Aluminum would be a good idea but, I would be concerned with tapping the threads and my aluminum TIG welding leaves a little to be desired
