What is the best way to open up the overflow valve?

There are a couple of ways to go after it. But the net result is the same. The overflow valve tube has a very small opening into the tank. You want to increase that hole size to something larger than a molecule or so

You can carefully straighten the tube, then drill it out. Or you can find a good place to cut an remove the bend (thus opening the top for a straight drill to enter).

I have done both. Not sure which I would recommend. Keeping the bend makes it easier to get a hose on it without kinks.

If you straighten it without being incredibly careful, you break it off.

Might be easier to vent the gas cap.

Pingel is the way to go and get the hi flo filter if the float and jets are right you will have what you say unless you make the change IMHO

Ordered the needle/valve assy today. Since there is snow on the ground I don't mind waiting. Thanks for all the input. I'm doing this one step at a time. Some folks get this to work with minimum change so that's what I'm trying. I'll post progress. Keep the advice coming in, I appreciate it all!!

I was one of those minimal change guys that got good success. I eliminated the pump and cut down the primary fuel flow tube 1/2". I bought a small in-line filter that looked like the size I wanted at Autozone.

I ran the line over the intake and down to the inlet tube, and left the spring cover on it from the petcock to the filter.

It's been all good.

Do you ride it hard (hitting or getting close to the rev limiter)?

Well, You'll be glad you took the leap. The pingle is so much easier to operate, delivers great fuel flow, looks nicer, allows you to run the fuel down to almost dry on reserve, plus in my case anyways, no starvation and factory like fuel performance as far as the light and draw. (with factory petcock and pumpless I used to run out of fuel at 1.5 gallons, could not drain off reserve and the low fuel light never came on.)

And it's so easy to turn off and on!

I thought the Pingle and high flow fuel filter was less duckies at Maxair, I could be wrong.

Anyways. I took old one off, turned tank up side down, Put the pingle plate on, marked hole with a Perm Marker, flipped tank back over. Got under it with a rat tail file in a drill and a powerful magnet stuck to it, Then I flied the hole out that way, it went quick. I then washed any leftover shavings out with a good blast of carb cleaner. Makcap thinks I cheated. He was like what? your done already?

Oh! Important! The gasket they give you is too large and it's blue and looks like CRAP if you leave it. After you get the hole the right size to a dry install and run the Perm marker around the plate to indicate where to cut the gasket before you add glue and install. I also suggest you color the edges black with the marker for a neater install.

The directions with the pingle are fairly lacking. Be sure the surfaces are very clean, let the adhesive set the required time on both surfaces. (They give you plenty, I had 50% left over)

Evenly crank your bolts down.

Have fun!

Mr. Shamrock,

I have to admit... I'm an easy rider. Not a whole lot of WOT or high speed stuff that might run the bowl dry.

My rev is set to a 5k max, and I don't hit it, but if it were at the old 4,250 I certainly would be from time to time.

OK, I have now installed the Suzuki 2.5 valve/needle set. Took a good ride (the weather here in the Rockies has been incredible!) and she runs fantastic. I can however get her to starve, although I really have to force the issue. So exactly what does cutting down the petcock tube do for it? Also I'm going to re-set the float a little higher. But none of this needs to be done right away because she is ridin' sweet!!! Plus, as I said, it looks great. Here is a pic of a petcock. Where exactly do you cut?

Do you have to put the suzuki valve/needle set in if you remove the pump, or can you just remove the pump, do a new filter, and vent the tank? Alot of back and forth on that it seems. Thanks, Eric.
