Actually, I get a about what you are getting. I average 45mpg, thats a mix of low throttle crising and some letting her rip thru the gears hitting the rev limter in each gear. I've gotten as high as 52mpg, but 45 is average.

Mine is a dead stock `06 Silverado with the factory windshield, saddlebags and all the other trimmings.

If mine ever started getting 32mpg, I'd figure something was bad wrong.....!!!

TROB,GREAT LOOKING BIKE YOU HAVE THERE & NO DISRESPECT MEANT BUT YOUR OVERLOOKING SOMETHING VERY IMPORTANT WHEN TALKING MPG,ADD TO YOUR STRIPPED BIKE HEAVY THICK LEATHER SADDLEBAGS WITH LBS OF STUFF IN THEM & REQUIRED METAL MOUNTING BRACKETS/HARDWARE ,TALL WINDSCREEN THATS LIKE A SAIL,BACKREST -SISSYBAR-LUGGAGE RACK,LARG DRIVER FLOOR BOARDS ,REAR PASS SEAT,LRG TUBE CRASH BARS,MUCH LONGER SOMOEWHAT HEAVIER EX PIPES ESP IF RNNING WITH BAFFLES & JETTED CARB,AND LOWERS THAT ARE LIKE MINI SAILS TO YOUR BIKE AND WATCH IT LOOSE A MINIMUM OF 6-8 MPG IF NOT MORE IN A HEARTBEAT.

ALL THOSE ACCESSORIED ADD A LOT OF WEIGHT AND THATS NO TO MENTION ALL THE WIND RESISTANCE FROM THE TALL WINDSCREEN/LOWERS/DRIVER FLOOR BOARDS/SADDLE BAGS ALL COLLECTIVELY CAUSING CONSIDERABLE WIND REISTANCE TOO WITH WILL ALSO REDUCE MPG .

We have to remeber to compair apples to apples when making compairisons like this and maybe we should not really compair a fully loaded MUCH HEAVIER R* cruiser thats running a tall windscreen thats like a sail along with lowers and all the other heavy items i listed above to a almost completely stripped considerably lighter mostly in town custom cruiser thats got nothing on it,no way are they going to get same mpg even thouh they are running same basic motor/trans setups.

Just wanted to throw that out there to keep in mind when talking fuel mileage ad or for that matter perf of any kind with stripped vs fully loaded bikes of this size.

A lot of it has to do with riding style as well...... some folks like to ride`em like the stole `em. I like to ride nice and easy..... let her rev slow and swap gears a little sooner.

Case in point, when my son had his `05 MidnightStar, he would hit reserve long before I would. Come to find out, he was 'riding' 3rd and 4th gear longer than I was. Same bike displacement, 2 different riders. Both with the same options installed.

thats what i was thinking.....so it is possible to get good gas mileage with everything on it. But i dont have experience with "fully loaded" R*'s so i tolerated the rant.

Well guess I may hack everybody off but she is full dressed and have the TALL windshield and as much chrome as I can stuff on her. (Yes I need a new sig pic) I have done every mod I can without going into the engine. Took me a while to get rid of my SVS and 5 dyno runs to boot but in town I get 35-37 mpg. Open road at 70-80 mph I have gotten as high as 52 mpg with most of the time 50 mpg and I am 170 lbs. You jet it right you will get good mileage I promise.

Guess it's the Bubs with the torque chambers I see you have Bubs as well. Don't get me wrong I didn't get there over night and without a lot of carb work (just ask Doc or Gram). Heck I can rejet and change the needle setting in 15 minutes now and the dyno runs were a life saver. They do tell you just where in the power band your rich, lean, and right on. With common sense you can tweak what ever needs to be and get it right. In my case a silver washer under the needle stack up did it for me. The iridium plugs pushed it to the 52 limit. I do have HEAVY throttle hand and I blast from light to light.

Ok Curt or anyone else out there.I will ride my bike to you and let you jet my bike. If you can get my bike to get 47-50 mpg. I will pay good money. I have had my bike set up on a dyno and I have never gotten over 40mpg. I don't ride hard. I intentionally try to ease into her in an attempt to get good mileage. I have my 2000 & 2002 midnight. Neither will get over 37mpg 99% of the time. And yes I check my mileage every tank full. I really question how some people check fuel mileage??

I fill it up zero the trip meters ride and zero one trip meter, and if it takes over two tanks then zero the one trip meter and let the other accumulate the total mileage. I also write down how much each tank took to fill up. Divide the milage by the gallons took and ya got it. You do have a little more weight than me with those bags and the duals, my pipes are a lot shorter and I have aluminum wheels. I would love to try and get more out of it for you. I love a challange my friend.

Try lowering your Needle one notch, it will lean it out so you might get better mileage, and if it is too lean you can just put it back were it was

That may help but then it may make it too lean. Jetting is a play with all three components, pilot, needle, and main. You can bump the main up and lower the needle and vise versa, add or remove silver washers. Any number of combinations can get you to the same spot or real close to it. Just depends on how picky you are and how close you want to get it. Mine would pull just fine in the range that was off but when I added the silver washer it put it right on.
