Oh yeah ...

Dammit thebru, now you're making me wish I had gone ahead and ordered whitewalls for my silver star .. grrr

I had decided that whitewalls wouldn't look right on a lighter colored bike .. doh!!

Nice lookin ride dude.

Have an idea after eading all this in mult posts,it seeds the fuel doesn't overflow in most cases untill the ign is turned on activating f-pump which motor at normal op temps & not always when just real hot or overheated either ,but most say it happens more in hotter weather.

And most also said when this happens they eventually get motor fired up after being a littl loaded up and when the motor fires the flooding over stops as maybe fuel pressure even out or some coller fuel enters the carb ,who knows.

What i plan to do is since fuel seems to overflow like when stopping for fuel then trying to restart 5 mins later after carb/fuel line heat soak & the fuel pump is activated when ign is turned on and fuel pukes is put a small toggle sw (mounted for easy access) tied into hot wire to f-pump.

Then when in that sitution with hot start simply turn the toggle sw off ,then post filling biuke up get the bike fired up 1st then flip on the fuel pump after motor is running for 15-20 seconds relieving some fuel pressure or getting cooler fuel into the carb.

I also plan to insulate the fuel lines from f-pump to carb that run inbetween the cyls to keep temp dowm some there too.

Then for safety sake i am going to try to reroute a longer fuel overflow hole from carb out to drain under the bike and not all o=ver the side of the motor & possibly onto hot ex pipes too ,thats an accident waiting to happen there for sure.

But every time i read about carb puking its always post hot shutdown uppon refire a few mins later but only happens when fuel pump is activated when ign is turned on and that's why i fugure switching off f-pump for hot refire like when fueling up and letting motor run a few seconds then flipping on the elec f-pump should remidy this issue since thay also stated after motor fires up the overflowing fuel always stops or at least in most cases.

I never had this happen to my 06 R* yet likely because i just got it and its not been over 60 deg here in NE . But i am going to install the switch on fuel pump, insualet the fuel lnes inbetween the cyls, and get fuel overflow hose extended to drain under bike and not onto hot motor and poss ex that could end in disaster fire like i red someplace thats already happened to ther R* owners.

Its a crime that Yamaha can get away with this even in small #'s becasue it such a safety issue.

But anyway i figure if the ign sw idea works its simple to install and no big deal to flip off when shutting down hot and then simply flipping it back on post refire hot .

I have also read that shtting off fuel few blocks prior to hot shutdown has helped to reduce carb overflow on hot restart but not in all cases i read, some report that it didnt alway work for them.

But there is 1 thing that is conistsnat here which is the fact that everyone repots the fuel only over flows on hot refire when ign switch is turned on and f-pump is activated and over flow stops in most cases when motor is fired up and it runs ok after that so my switch on f-pump idea may be an easy fix for this issue in most cases, you never know.

If i find this works i will then look for some kind of relay and or device that can be tied into hot wire to f-pump that delay 12volt power to fuel pump for approx 20- 30 seconds post ign sw being turned on giving plenty of time to get otor refired and running before f-pump activates/turns on so you wont have to deal with turning f-pump on & off anymore.

Only thng is if bike sat for long enough time and fuel evap'd out of carb you would have to wait 20-30 seconds to f-pump to activate and pump fuel into the carb to fire bike up which is no big deal either.

Thanks MAX127...
It came out just like I wanted it. Oh, the white walls are nice but a total pain to keep clean.

Well, there goes my theory shotall to hell/LOL!!!!!!!

Most have stated their bikes puke on hot restart when ign sw is turned on activating elec fuel pump.

Well guess what,i have owned my 06 R* for only 5-6wks and 600 miles it did its 1st carb puke today in 50 deg temps after riding 45 mins then shutting down at home.

Approx 2-3 mins post shutdwon while getting stuff out of the bags i hear a SSSHHHHHH /Gurgiling sound and look at the carb and see fuel spewing out all over the hot motor and making a white smoke & SHHHH sound looking like it was going to ignite any second.

Bike was in my new garage with my #' maching 69 chevelle ss 396 i have owned for over 30 yrs sitting next to it looking like that bike was going up in flames any second taking my pricey classic car and new garage & house with it.

I didnt know what to do 1st ,grab the closeby fire ext or try to push the bike outside hoping it would not ignite while rolleing outsite tourching me in the process, was not good,i was a very unhappey camper to say the leats.

How the blankety blank could yamaha get away with this since i see here in RSC so many R*'s are doing this?

In earlier post here yy theory was since all fuel pukes seemd to be at hot refire when gin sw is turned on activating f-pump that installeing a toggle sw on f-pump to shut off for hot restart then powering it back up post fireup isnt the complete cause of carb puke because mine puked no problem with ign off/no power to the elec fuel pump.

After fuel puke was done i quickly removed stock air filter housing to see how hot carb was and even thought it was approx 53 deg out the carb was so hot i could hardly touch it.

Geuss heat soak from lrg cyls kill carb with heat and not much airflow due to lrg stock airbox not helping matter either.

Bike isnt too lean either heating it up,plugs look good and even when starting in 50 deg temsp it starts fast, will idle on its own with no choke in 1.5-2 mins shwoing slightly ricn on idle and i can pull away with no choke in 2-2.5 mins mins tops warmup in 50deg And no lean sputtering or hesitaion at all so i know it not running too lean & heating up.

I guess it looks like i will have to try one of the mods in near future but for now will try to remember to turn off fuel mile or s prior to shutdown to have most fuel out of bowl when i get to destination & shut it down,.

But i will still be putting a toggle on the f-pump too just in case it decides to do it someday when ign is turned on for hot restart to ensure it doesn cause it then and add to the issue forcing out more fuel when pump turns on.

I am also going to insulate the fuel lines from tank to carb becasue the fuel must get very hot and that could cause it to expand on hot shut down durring head soak over loading carbs needle & seat due to the heat soaked fuel in fuel line inbetween the hot cycle.

Then I am going to extend the vent line on upper left side of carb above throat that hooks to airbox further down below bike to ensure fuel spit from there doenst hit hot motor but its hard to address fuel that being puked out of moutch /carb throat .

also plan to run small hose from small vent tube under flaot bowl to under bike too in case that ever decides to let go.

But i did read another post in RSC where someone modified/cut a funnel to fit inside the airbox with a hose attached to the funnel run out thru bottom of airbox to get any fuel out of airbox that puked from the carbs throat and away from hot motor so it will dump out below the bike when that happens.

I think the fuel comming out of carbs throat may be forced out of accell pump resivour and accell pump tube when fuel heat soaks & boils post hot shutdown but i dont know that for sure yet.

I realze all those things i am going to do are bandaid's at best and not a fix but at least for now doing those things may reduce possiblility of the bike turning the wife & myself into crispy critters which is no laughing matter when you thnk about it.

Then with fuel more safely routed to puke /drain below bike i can then try some of the mods stated here in RSC untill it get it fixedonce and for all.

I really hate to have to do the suzuki needle and seat mod etc that will likely require additional carb tuning etc. Other the fuel puke the motor runs flawlessly, starts well cold & warms up fast, takes throttle well,no spits backfire when hitting gas hard-fast,no backfires on decel and have gotton 45+ mpg in mixed driving and i really hate t mees that up but may be forced to do so by eliminating f-pump,installing suzuki needl & set,re-adj flao lvl, permanantly venting fuel cap,etc
