Dont forget to have them also do a compression & leak down test to see what that shows.

A wrist pin can make trhe noise you describe but pistons can alsao run many miles/yrs with a cracked skirt too and wiil make noise/knock sound that can sound somewhat like a worn wrist pin too.

Still could be a bad lifter because the top end will make nose with a colapsed lifter due to clearance at top of pushrod in head at rocker arm and lower portion of motor where lifters are house will still be relatively quiet for that reaosn.

Coiuld also be worn rocker assembly or bent pushrod fro prior owner overreving it it he somehow disabled the stock 4,500rpm rev limiter.

It will be inetresing to see wha it turns out to be becasue iunfortuantely on the intrnet we can hear/exprience the noise you bike is making which make it harder to try to diagnose it from a laptop screen unless maybe you posted live video of the noise if it could be heard well enough .

Good luck.

Scott

Re:Decisions! Decisions! 2 Years, 6 Months ago
Mine does this during after long trips it irons itself out in 2 or 3 days. Someone I rode with had same problem on an 01 RS. We were running hard all day and next am on start up they both sounded like they needed a top end Adjustment, well, it ironed itself out in 2 or 3 days that was 2 rear MC tires ago and at 32K I have not done a thing to the top end. Quiet as a mouse. It only happens in really warm weather and long trips running hard. That's what happened to me anyways. Running same type oil. I have magnet in oil drain Plugs at the time and nothing on the plugs.

Hi. I've been searching rsc trying to figure out a noise my bike(2003 rs) is making. A piece of the piston skirt cracked & fell into engine on a trip a while ago.I noticed the bike was making a weird clicking noise about ever 4th revolution. I changed pistons & got it all back together but that clicking noise is still in it. It sounds like it coming from the bottom front of the engine. Been through everything several times & cant figure out this noise. have you any suggestions on what it could be. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thx Darcy

I'm always curious when these old threads resurface about whether the OP found the problem.

Same here. It's aggravating, when a thread and subject just slip into the ditch on the www, and disappear. I like it when folks give the final story....like Paul Harvey, and "The Rest Of The Story".
