I was thinking of riding the PCH next spring. Anyone do it before? WDYT? Anyone willing to go with?

I used to do it all the time in my car, it's much better than running I-5. More towns, some stop and go and great view (most of the time).

Just like Route 66, if I had the time and money, I'd be right there with ya!

I practically live on PCH, in Newport Beach. If you do get by this way, let me know!

I dont the whole thing more than once. South of Santa Monica its a waste of time. On second thought you said PCH. PCh is generally refferred to as the area through southern california along the beaches. nice but tons of traffic. However PCh is also highway 1 which is superb north of LA all the way to Oregon. I rode the 100 miles from the Russian River in Sonoma County to fort Bragg a few months ago. More turns than you can imagine and unreal vistas if the fog cooperates. However, as the rider you are pretty busy so plan on looking from turn outs not while riding!

I've lived on the San Francisco peninsula for almost 10 years (not now though), and frequented PCH from SF all the way down to Orange County (Newport Beach). It's beautiful, but gets crowded once you hit Ventura. FYI, PCH (Hwy. 1) merges with the 101 freeway at times.

Let me know what I can answer for you.

:-DD.

Used to live right off it for 4 years.

If you start at SF, take is as far as Half Moon Bay, then turn east and go up to the crest of the mountain. turn south and ride the ridge (Skyline drive). On a sun or sat you will see 19,341 bikes!

Stop at about the 1/2 point at Alice's restaurant (there will be 6,782 bikes parked there).

Continue on down on rt 9 to Santa Cruz, back on to Rt 1, but quickly get off again and stop at Capitola, a suberb of SC for lunch or dinnner.

Proceed down Rt 1 thru Monterey and Carmel (stop at the Laguna Seca race track and take in a MC race).

Continue on Rt 1 south thru Big Sur.

Stop at San Simeon and visit the Herst Castle.

A few miles later is Cambria, another great little town to stop for dinner or lunch.

On down to Pismo Beach, cool beach town.

On down to Santa Barara, and then the good roads end at Ventura.

I sure miss those roads!
