scottw, I'm glad to hear that the tire change fixed your problem. My '06 is not the Silverado model and may have different tires than your original tires. I was thinking mine are Bridgestones but will confirm. Like you, I'm to the point of trading or selling this bike due to the poor handling....but maybe I should give the tire change a try as I really like this motorcycle and am not in a position to make the financial sacrifice of selling or trading it. Do you think it was just the tire change or combination of tightening the bearings?

These issues you all are having must be tire related. My bike is so stable I believe if I fell off it would keep going til it ran out of gas before it fell over. No matter if it has the stock shield, a fairing or naked, this thing is rock solid.

Hi Guys,yes it was definately tire related in my case,tires look perfect but handled so bad it was downright deangerous at times.

It must be that the Star's loding is sensitive to certain tire design but since i found a tire that works well up front i may even buy a 2nd tire as a backup for when this latest new tire wears out just in case they discontinue that design ro mfg is sent to india and they mess it up there/LOL!!!!!

I still have the dunlop tire of same design on back that did work well on the front,seems like i felt a twich hear or there but nothing at all lie was going on in the front.

But i would have to also i thnk no matter what bran tires on a big bike the R* when they get 1/2 worn or more many of them could start to do funny thing too like wobble when you take your hands off the bars which is a very common thing to happen with a tire that worn at least 1/2 way or more with my exp ridng bike for many moons.

Going out for a ride now to enjoy my new great handling machine.

Yeah, I bumped up the tire pressure to 40psi and that seemed to take care of my vibration. I think I have came to the conclusion that the stock tire are crap.

i also had a problem with my front end wobbling if you let go of the handle bars like the guy that started this post. i went to yamaha and got a new tire and it completly fixed the problem. the guy at yamaha said it appeared to have been run low on air (which to the my untrained eye didnt notice this)and once its ran low on air it like to track all crazy causeing the wobbling.

Well that new dunlop 404 tire i had causing my bikes unstable hadnling wasn't underinflated.

I tried the the rec my yamaha 36 psi/then 38psi/then 40psi & it didnt fix it.

BTW,its pretty common with many biles that when front tire is at least 50% worn out or more to sart to get the wobbles. Not always bad enough to affect handling much if at all with both hands on bars but enough to get some wobbles with no hands on bars.

Just wanted to post an update on my issue with front end wobble. My dealer, under warranty, tightened the steering head bearings which they said were extremely loose. This seems to have fixed my problem. No wobble noticed on decel from 60 on down. I'm assuming the bearings were never properly set at the factory. Hopefully this corrects some of the other handling quirks I've experinece with this bike.

Just curious,how many miles were on you bike when the steering head bearing were so loose?

I had the same issue as many of the folks have posted on this thread and had the bearings replaced. That being said, I'd like to know whats involved in tightening up the bearings myself rather than taking the bike back to the dealer for service. I've searched the forum but saw nothing that gave instructions on what to do, and not do when doing this adjustment.

I would like to know how to adjust the neck bearings as well. I'm sure someone will have something to say about it.
