Couple Questions 2 Years, 6 Months ago
What size and thread is the oil drain plug on the oil tank? I'm looking to buy a new one and center drill it to add a sensor for an oil temp gauge.
What would be a good wires to tap into (in the head lamp area) for a volt meter?
What wire would be good for tapping into for a radio power (I have removed the fuel pump and carb heater). I think the fuel pump gets it power from the ignition module and has a relay. The carb heater is separate fuse in the box but not sure if it times out or is hot all the time when ignition is on.
Thanks all.

I would run a clean wire off the battery for volt and for the radio with in line fuses. If you look on the right side of the bike past the decompression solenoid there is a pressure test port that might work I use it for my oil pressure gauge. I have a fitting that goes to a 2n or check out the tech section. I would get a large O connector to go to the terminal not a bunch of separate ones.

I have a mechanical oil pressure gauge connected to that port by the decom solenoid. I was looking to get a new oil drain plug for the tank, center drill it and install a temp probe for oil temp gauge in the fairing. Need also need an ignition ON hot lead for the gauge and for a volt meter for the fairing. I found a battery hot all the time lead that is a connection for the ignition switch that will be used for the radio memory.

FYI Drain plugs are 14mm X 1.50. I run the auto store magnetic one in my oil tank. BB

Guess it's too late now, but Jensen makes marine radios that require no battery connection to keep memory. msr3007 is water resistant and has a standard DIn face that is also not removable, they also make msr7007 which is a marine water proof, this has a larger front face though. I had issues with 2 radios that have removable face plates, over time and vibrations the contacts wore and lost the display, still would play though. Don't know what fairing you are running, but I was never able to use the CD when riding until I got the msr7007, much different in mounting and is more solid, I can play Cd's without skips, even going over RR crossings

Sorry not much sleep when I first answered you can take a test light or go to paulmier and trace it down in the diagram. My radio has a constant power and ign switch can't remember color want to say blue yellow for some reason. I have a volt meter also but it is tapped up and sound dead material on top of that. You could try a few searches on the site for radio hook up or volt meter hook up. If you use the test light just turn on and off and hit the kill switch that should narrow it down.

Installing a Harley fairing inner and outer prelim picts attached. Haven't bought the radio yet. Been looking at the PYLE Marine PLMR18 that does not have a CD but has a USB port under a sealed plug in the face. I figure I can down load all my Zune stuff to a 4 GIG thumb drive and plug in. With that radio there is no flip down face that I can see when going to their site. I found a battery hot all the time off the connection to the ignition switch. I also just ordered the Kuryakyn Tune Trapper #853 hidden antenna and Faze gauges volt meter and the oil temp. Hell of a good deal.

Here's another option, which is what I did. I got another fuse box (under fairing) used a relay to power the aux. fuse box. Tapped into the front running light (blue wire) to the relay and the aux fuse box get power from battery when key is turned on.. all my electrics in the fairing are off this aux fuse box.
