It would take over (6) .5 inch holes to equal the area of (1) 1.25 inch hole, so bigger is better. Don't drill out such a big hole that you weaken the back plate of the housing.

I will be going around the perimiter of the box with large holes and then epoxy some screening around the inside to keep the big crap out.

I like that approach. This way you get cooler air intake, as opposed from the rear of the box. The screening could give a nice finishing touch.

Most people drill the back side to preserve the water intrusion resistance of the stock air cleaner. Once that K&N gets wet, air won't pass through it too good and your bike will run like crap if not outright stall. If you never get caught in the rain, your good to go.

You know TROB is ABSOLUTELY CORRECT, you guys are dangerous, every time I think I got things just about where I want them someone comes up with a new idea or plan and gets my mind to turning again Must be that Jedi Mind thing goin on here But seriously you are all a great group and always are there with help, so thanks as well.
