What size risers can I go up to and still use the stock Yamaha cables and wiring?

I put a set of four inch risers w/ a built in tachometer on my Star and didn't have to change any of the cables.

HEY JWBAIRD,

HAVE BEEN RECENTLY THINKING ABOUT THE TACH AND RISER OPTION. BUT AM A LITTLE EMBARRASSED ABOUT THE TACH FOR SUCH A LOW REVING MACHINE. DOES IT HELP MUCH ON THE LOW SPEED DOWN SHIFTING GUESSING ON THE RPMS? THAT IS WHAT I AM REALLY THINKING ABOUT IT FOR?

THANKS,

I just find it funny that Tak is wondering if he needs a tach.

I opted not to have a tach. I think it would be nice for tuning purposes, but I like clean lines, and like you, I don't really see the point. Just my opinion.

Tak...tach.... LOL!!!

Rocky.

4" up, 1 1/2" back .. stock cables and lines.

I have the PRO ONE set up with a tach as well. What do I use it for? I know what RPM what MPH equates too and since it is much more in the plain line of site, I use it to watch my speed. 2,000 in 5th is about 62 MPH or so.

My opnion on being embarassed on having a tach on a low reving machine ... any engine can be over reved and the Roadie motors with just an Air Kit and pipes can hit red line damn fast. An extra 500 PRMs on the large, bulky and heavy valve trains of a V-Twin is a lot of extra weight being tossed around. Don't be embarassed, I was a bit surprise there was no tach since in teh past 33 years every bike I ever owned came with a tach standard. The low rev engine does not need a tach response never sat well with me. In other words, anyone want to take a pot shot at you for a tach, ignore 'em. Odds are they are short shifting their motor anyway.

Post edited by: CRASH, at: 2005/05/25 12:35

You should be able to use up to 4 inch with no problems. Dont be afraid to reroute cables if they seem a little tight. Make sure to lift front end off of ground and then compress as far as possible while checking for tightness on cables. Better to be over cautious then not.
