Tires Were the problem 2 Years, 6 Months ago
Last night, in desperation, I posted the poor handling of my new ride (R*). Your responses hit the right diagnosis -Tire pressure.

I first checked air pressure, which was barely 10 psi. After airing up, the bike showed a good improvement.

I decided to replace the tires as well. I bought the tires from our local Kawi shop. I saved some money instead of buying from the internet. In fact buying the Dunlops from DennisKirk.com and having them mounted and balanced would have cost me 30 dollars more - sometimes it is better to shop locally.

Now the bike leans and turns without fighting back. Unbelievable

MKHAN,REGUARDING THE NEW DUNLOPS YOU JUST BOUGHT FOR YOUR R*.

READ THIS ONFO I JUST POSTED SUNDAY PM & PASTED BELOW WHEN I HAD HANDLING ISSUES WITH BRAND NEW DUNLOPS ON MY 06 R* WITH 5K MILES ON IT.

I had 2-3 oither R* owners tell me the the dunlop 404's MAKE the R*handle erratically and that was case with my bike too, read my post pasted below.

If i were you i'd ditch the dunlops (or at least the front dunlop) for something else since inc me that makes 3-4 R*'s that had handling issues with a dunlop on the front of the bike.

I'd hate to see you post here later on you too had issues with a dunlop on the front and had to go thru the time/money/hastle of changing out a brand new tire like i had to do along with the 2-3 other fellow R* owners that saidthey had the same issue too.

PROMISSED UPDATE:

YAHOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My bike is fixed!!!! it was the POS brand new Dunlop tire that caused the terrible instability & handling at all speeds (20mph-50pmh-70mph-didnt matter)on my R* .

I replaced the new dunlop tire i had just installed and rode for 500 miles trying to ensure it was well scrubed in which didnt help at all with a Bridgestone 703.

That new Bridgestone sticks to the road like glue,is stable ,and corners almost as easy as my 1000 kawi does thats 225 lbs lighter.

The new bridgestone tire also allowed me to raise the windsreen back to it's highest position for full coverage so air doesnt hit me diectly in middle of head hich was a big + too. I had moved windsreen down when having handling issues with the dunlop tires thinking maybe that was the issue but it didnt help & am glad i could move it back up with new tire.n.

Bike cruises great at 70-75 mph, that seems to be a real sweet spot for motor rpm to be at on the open raod.

Then i came home after test ride and installed tne new Bucks lowers i had on hand and all the buffitting is bacsically gone now too.

I am so relieved and happy now,the bike doesn't have a gremlin in it & is a dream at all speeds and do drive/rdie. Even on little country roads at 30-40mph to the interstate at 70-75 mp the bike doesnt care and does great in both places which is what i expected from that bike and it's now delivering it.

Can't speak for the 404 but I run the Dunlop 402 and Cruisemax tires and never had a problem with them!

hmmmm

I have run two sets of the Dunlop cruisemax tires and have loved evry mile they have given me. Not familier with the 404 either. I wonder if it's that particular tire model or did you just get a bad one?

Either way it's cool that you were able to pinpoint it fairly quickly and are back to enjoying the ride.

Well i can speak for the dunlop 404 is rec by yamaha in the yamaha factory svc manual for my 06 silverado & thats why i went with it since my local bike shop gave a great but on them.

Now i know why there were cheap, you get what you pay for in this world most of the time & that dunlop 404 was a junk and checper then most if not all tires i looked at to replace it .

I also had a couple other fellow RSC guys tell me the dunlop was ng for front of s R* as they had instablity/handling issues with them too.

It looks as though many R* guys have good luck with the meztlers so next time arround i may try them out.
