Buy ya some loud pipes and you won't hear any funny noises. Ride it like ya stole it and you will be fine. 2500 rpm = 80 mph 2000 = about 60-65. BTW

About 55-60 is minimum for 5th gear on my '08. I had the front brake sound on mine and took it back to the dealer. Like other have said it's normal and in my case it seems to have gone away over time. Or I can't hear over the aftermarket pipes. Enjoy!

I have an 07 with 16,000 miles and learned from this site that use of 5th gear below 60 was not advisable. Bike keeps running better as the miles add up. Enjoy and ride safe. Bofish

If I'm accelerating through the gears getting up to highway speed, I don't go into 5th until 65-70 mph. It's definitely lugging if you try to cruise in 5th below 60. These bikes already operate at low RPMs and have some carbon build-up issues with the valves. No need to add to the problem. I have found in 37,000 miles that my bike likes to run at higher RPMs; it does not like the lugging and chugging along at low speeds in high gears.

If I'm cruising at 55, i'll kick it to 5th. Any lower, I'm in 4th, and the engine really likes that RPM range. Don't follow the book, do what feels comfortable and right, and you'll have a long and happy life with her. Good luck, and congrats!

Re:New R*, what speed? 2 Years, 6 Months ago
Mine hates it below 55 in 5th. I keep it in 4th, until I get over 60. The buzzing, mine had it too when new, so did my V-stars. after a time it eventually goes away. I put EBC's on my front brakes when they were ready to be replaced, much stronger stopping. Panic stops are much better as well. except when it's wet...

Roadies, unlike some big-bore V-twins, like to be wrapped up a bit going thru the gears. Like most of the others here, 4th to 5th around 60-65 mph.... Like Curt said, git yerself some good, loud pipes, no more engine noises!

Re:New R*, what speed? 2 Years, 6 Months ago
i run 1st to ~32mph 2nd to ~55mph & 3rd to ~80mph and althou i hit the rev limit in 1&2 i cant find it till ~>85 in 3rd.

mine will lug nice and ~55-50mph for a 5th gear lugging.

if i shift to early going half throttle & accelerating the clutch will slip in 3rd easily. it's nice cruisin around 35-40 in 3rd but i gotta go down to 2nd to keep from slipping to much.

a barons clutch spring is on my christmas list...
