Don't forget to upgrade your tires to "Z"-rated & flip your helmet shields DOWN before any of you attempt +130 MPH travel on your Roadies! A bullet fairing would help too!

If Burt Munro could get a 1920 Indian Chief up to over 200 MPH in the '60s, surely with today's technology, we can get a Road Star to past 120!

I have a 1600, and I peak HP at 4800rpm, not at 3600rpm, my peak tq is from 2200rpm to 3200rpm then tq starts to fall, hp is still going up. No engine mods, pipes, air kit, and a 42hsr, and a dyna set at 34A 5k rpm.

not dissing you, but are those numbers `seat of the pantsī or dyno?

Rather than do math to calculate what your theoretical top speed might be why not just hit a nice stretch of interstate and find out what your actual top speed is?

That is what you want to know, right?

I've seen dealership dressed folks hanging around 'Biker Theme Bars' bragging about manufacturer and dyno specs, they bore me, screw colportage bikers.

The guys I run with ride for fun, they will show you what their bike will do, if you ask (pull up and grab hell outta throttle is a good way- ) and can keep up.

My 1999 with just bare minor mods will run from Salisbury to Burlington averaging 85-90 mph non stop trouble free and do 105mph from 70mph in maybe 2-3 seconds, I haven't gone over that yet because of vibration as the front tire has (well not when I get it back from the shop) some scalloping and the rear was getting slick.

No, I'm on almost every day, just more of a lurker. Someone else always seems to know more than I do about technical stuff, so not that much to input. Will get around to the welcome thread eventually.

It's only been a year, so I guess there's really no hurry anymore

Those are dyno's. I've had a few pulls on stock and 42hsr carbs. I use the dyno for tuning for afr, get those numbers right, hp and tq fall into place. Been using the same guy, and try to schedule when similar temps and humidity. Yes, I can get anal about the specs I want to see and comapre, LOL what has worked for me tho. For the 1600 engine, to get usable power need the dyna3k too, stock rev limits is a wash for air and pipe change. If you go to speed star accessories and look up their different stages, they show the runs that yamaha did for each stage too, they don't show afr,

Hope you speed demons don't have a rear flat at 110+ like I had at 60 a while back. I had to fight big time to keep things under control and ease it off the right shoulder. I could not imagine what it would've been like over 100
Instead of riding fast one last time I think I'll ride a little slower for my last 200 rides or so instead

I apologise if I hurt anyones feelings with this, ya'll weren't there, you didn't ruin a fun time and act poorly towards a good friend of mine.

I've seen dealership dressed folks hanging around 'Biker Theme Bars' bragging about manufacturer and dyno specs, they bore me, screw colportage bikers.

I have issues with dyno spec kings because of a handful of clueless types (couldn't show you where the oil goes) that came into our area at a largeish motorcycle event, fresh off the dyno trailer, bragging and waving printouts and after refusing to quiet down and refusing a challenge to 'put up or shut up' race, continued to scoff at my friends latest home made marvel of speed and irritating everyone waving their dyno specs for their low mileage shiny big dogs, kendal j's etc...

Like I said, it wasn't you guys, I'm sorry for lashing out, there is nothing like a dyno for fine tuning a bike and no hi-way race can show the exact numbers in as much precision and detail.

And there isn't a damned thing wrong with someone that doesn't want to run out and punch speed envelopes.
As long as they don't demand attention for glory that belongs to the fastest, not the best specs.

After almost forty years since my first trail bike and as my near death experiences accumulate, I'm also begining to see a lot more wisdom in Tusler's words. And it would be nice to see my grandkids grow up. Riding at moderate speeds another xx years just might end up winning out over pulling out in front of my buddies on the long stretch tomorrow, or maybe the day after ...
