sears motorcycle jack 2 Years, 6 Months ago
|
|

I bought a sears craftsman motorcycle jack, (red one) the problem I’m having is the jack doesn’t fit under my R*. It’s about a ½” to high, I called the sears service and worked through the trouble shooting and they ended up sending me a new ram to install on it. The ram is the hydraulic part of the jack; the new one is the same as the first one. Just wondering if anyone else had the same problem, before I take it back to sears and get another one in which I could have the same thing happen. Does anyone know of a quick modification that I could do to make it work?

yea same problem here with most of my bikes when i have lowered them...roll your back tire over a piece of wood or two, then you can slip the jack under it

I bought same jack & had same issue with my bone stock not lowered 06 silverado 1700,but it's not really a problem either becuase i can get that jack under the bike very easily doing the following.
I simply push jack under the bike as far as it will go then step inbetween bike and jack facing towords the front of the bike .
Then i place my right hand on the long jack handle and then use my left hand to pull bike towards me off the side stand at the same time which gets the bike a little more towards being lvl (that gets you the 1/2" needed clearance to get jack under bike) while at the same times pushing the jack under the bike with your right hand.(you could use a helper to straighten up bike for you if you want)
I have done this many times and this proceedure works fine for me every time and i am not a big bruiser of a guy either thats muscling the jack under the bike,i am only @ 5ft 9" & 155lbs & if i can handle doing it i figure just about else anyone could too.
You could also remove the very thick rubber cusions that are on the jack and replace them much thinner 1/8" plywood cut to size, thinner rubber inner tube cut to size,or an old thick towel or sweat shirt covering the metal on the jack to protect bike frame. Doing that may get you the additonal clearance you need without having to do the little dance i do to get the jack under the bike.

Is your scoot lowered? I just set the kickstand on a 1" block of wood so it raises that side up a bit higher and slide the red jack under it. Works great.

I use the same procedure outlined by scottw to get my Craftsman jack under the bike. Mine is stock height. Really not that hard, reverse procedure when you lower the jack. Make sure the side stand is down before you lower it!!!!

The sears aluminum lift is about 2 inches lower as well as their higher priced ones. 5.5 inches vs 3.5 inches

my bike isn't lowered. I like the idea of putting the bike on boards and roll jack under it. Are other name brand jacks the same way?
