Fuel Injector Problem? 2 Years, 6 Months ago
|
|
I have a 08 Roadstar 1700 w/approx. 10,000 miles & just recently changed the pipes to a set of " Bub Big Willy's" added the "Power Commander" & changed the air filter to a "K & N". I have always had bad gas mi., the light usually kicks on w/126 miles showing from full.
I have the Pair vavle blocked & the Oxygen sensors have resisters in them to make them work (not installed in the pipes)
With all the maps given from P.C. it seems to run really rough in 4th & 5th when the bike flattens out.
This seems to be a real problem because it is in a High Performance Bike Shop & they are trying to Dyno-tune it for a custom map.
They have done a leak-down test, that's ok. Pulled the gas tank & checked all hoses & wires, that's ok. Changed spark plugs & still can't seem to figure out what the problem is.
........ Got any clues??

How does putting a resister on the O2 sensor make it work? Why don't you just install them and LET them work. Then it can read your fuel mixture and adjust it as needed. Your probably running a full rich condion all the time.
By the way

You don't want the O2 sensors to work. Unplug them or remove the Power Commander. The Power Commander instructions tell you to unplug them as well. I had this problem with my wifes 1300 V-Star and a Cobra FI2000R. The bikes computer was fighting the fuel processor. Unplugged the O2's and the bike runs great and gets about 50 mpg. My 2008 Roady has a Power Commander with Road Burner pipes and it also runs very strong and I average about 42 mg.
Hope this helps

I have an '08 with aftermarket pipes and a K&N BAK. No need for a Power Commander or anything else. Hook up the O2 sensors, put everything back stock and let her fly. I get about 40mpg around town and about 46-48 on the road. Your warning light will come on at between 120 and 140 miles. Our gas tanks hold a little less gas because of the fuel pump in there for the fuel injection. You will notice if you fill up as soon as the fuel warning comes on, it will take about 3 to 3.5 gal to top it off. Or you can continue on with the PC and other stuff and it will give you something to occupy your time during bad riding weather. If it hasn't been done you'll want to disable or remove the AIS to avoid alot of backfiring on deceleration and there are threads on here about how to do that. Did I mention the ECU in the '08 will compensate for the BAK and after market pipes? Yep it does. Been riding mine with this setup for about a year now and couldn't be happier.

I haven't updated my pic since I put on ultimate seats, but it probably is the same and should run great with the setup I described. One of those cases where less is better. Have fun, I love mine!

Thanks for the tip. You're about the fourth or fifth guy that has said the same thing in the last 24 hours. I'm gonna get the guys in the shop to install new O2 sensors in & remove the PC, (since the old O2's got missin somehow) hopeing this will solve the problem. I love the ride this bike has to offer. I have many more miles to put on this year.
Thanks to everone for your advise.
