Effects of gasoline on ? 2 Years, 6 Months ago
Looking to rig up an IV type of gas feed (for winter testing) using a stainless steel thermos bottle (aka cheap idea). My question is if I use a large cork with a valve in it and seal it well would the gas cause any problems with the cork over time or even immediately?

I use something even cheaper! I got a one gallon All (detergent) bottle from my wife , put a small hole in it on the bottom , used an old petcock off a dirt bike and sealed it to the bottom of the bottle. That thing works like a charm. Hangs on the wall here in the garage , but has been lent out to friends on many occasions. Gas doesn't bother it , and with the petcock , I can turn it on and off like a tank. Gas will get through more things than you think it will , so be careful. BB

How about just getting an IV bag from the local hospital supply? Terri might even be able to get you one as she works in the pharmacy and makes IV's all day. Give me a call later...

Well, there you go Jim, get a bottle of wine, drink it all up, and save the cork for the bike If you loose it, call me, I'll bring you another bottle of wine, and help you fix the bike!

I got a little 1 gallon red gas can at walmart put a fitting in one rear corner and sealed it and that is my test bottle. After I am finished I use the little yellow filler neck to dump the gas in my tank.

The only thing I can think of is if you were trying to run the bike with the gas tank removed. I guess it would come in handy when troubleshooting.

It's good for trying out baffle mods, checking for any coil arcing, setting the idle, finding air/gas leaks, etc. With the tank removed it makes things much easier. BTW BB, I like your suggetion. Nothing fancy just reliable. Gonna put something together after I get my daughters car back together this weekend. Thanks!
