Air Filter: A neat trick 2 Years, 6 Months ago
Hi:
My air filter was dirty, greasy and looked very grey. Blowing air was not an option because the filter was clogged with a mixture of oil and gas. I called my Yamaha dealer but he did not have one in stock.

Since I had nothing to lose, I stuffed the filter in an old pillowcase, closed the pillowcase and threw it into the laundry. I used gentle wash cycle, cold water, and Tide. Next step was the dryer.

The filter came out looking very clean, I did not see any damage.

Installed it on the bike. The bike ran great. I had to decrease the idling because the idling had increased.

Save money , go green.

Tide is good for washing lots of things but thats a new one on me You should call Proctor&Gamble, they may make that part of a commercial. If Tide was good enough for Mom it's good enough for Yama-mama.

Really glad that worked for you.

How did you get away with putting that in the washing machine? I would have worn a big swat across the head for that one. Good idea though.

If you can do that with it, you can wash it in a parts washer. Crazy idea I know, but it just might work. I know, not everyone has a parts washer, but almost everyone has a washing machine. So, did you use fabric softener?

Hmmm...my carb is dirty...

Nah.

Great ingenuity there, ZoomZoom...I've been whacked for trying that kinda stuff before, but only if I get caught...

That carb may make a little racket in the washer, but in the dryer you would be busted for sure.
