Chrome ... 2 Years, 6 Months ago
|
|
Its not what you think Just want to see who out there has tried Google's new Chrome browser and what you think of it. I have started using it a lot lately and once I got used to its very different interface, have found it to be a really pleasant and easy to use browser. Its also very very fast, even with very complex web pages.
If you have used it, please give me your feedback. It uses the same rendering engine that Mac's Safari does (which is pretty good one).
Just trying to gauge interest in this browser to get an advance idea of whether or not this may become a major player in the browser wars and one that I will need to support going forward.
Thanks!

I've installed an uninstalled it several times. In retrospect, I never gave it a fair shot...never seemed to have the patience at the time for the "learning curve" to get used to it over Firefox. I'm willing to give it another chance, because Firefox seems to be much slower lately. Or is it my impatience?
Also, isn't Google releasing an operating system by the same name...going head-to-head with Microsoft again? On a related note, after reading a post of yours recently on here, I downloaded the latest Ubuntu and have loaded it from the disc to play with it. So far, I really like what I see! It detected & set up a connection to my wireless network at least as easily, if not more so, than Windows 7. Think I'm going to dual boot system, ultimately using Windows for games only. Heck, I already use Open Office and Firefox exclusively, and those are built into Ubuntu...thanks! Now I just have to find one of those cool interfaces...saw one on YouTube were the guy was dragging and shaking app windows, and tabbing between apps was a rotating cube...looked even better than Mac...very slick.

You need to go to the System->Preferences->Appearance->Visual Effects settings and see if it will let you pick either 'normal' or 'extra'. If it will, you will have that stuff pretty quickly. Next install the package compizconfig-settings-manager in your synaptic package manager (System->Administration->Synaptics Package Manager). That will add a new section to your system->preferences menu (Advanced Desktop Effects Settings) that will let you turn a boat load of special effects on for your desktop.
Once you get it installed, take a little time to review the keybindings (key strokes) for the ones you want to play with.
When you get a chance, try Google Chrome again and live with it for a couple of days and tell me what you think. Its pretty impressive.
Thanks RK!

If you are comfortable doing it, go into the Firefox preferences under security and uncheck the forgery and attack site options. They can really slow things down.

I'm like RK. Tried it (and thought it was OK) but really didn't give it a fair shot I guess. Have to put it on the list on computer to-do's.

I am running Hardy Heron (Ubuntu). And the developer release of Chrome is the one I am running. It hasn't been buggy for me at all. Very stable. You can read more about it here Early Access Release Channels.
It gets updated pretty frequently. And there is some discussion about Mac OSX on that page. There are two .deb links a little ways down the page for Debian distros that work really well with Ubuntu.
