Carb diaphram - the problem all along! 3 Years, 5 Months ago

Replaced the stretched out diaphram on top of the carb and the backfiring, missing and stalling seems to be cured. Hard to believe that it probably caused all my jetting problems because of a poor seal. Right now, I am running a 170 main, a 40 pilot, needle clip on 4 with the white spacer and no washers with the pms out 3 1/2 turns. Haven't hit the rev limiter in ages and tonight it did in less than 1/2 block in second gear.......way cool! Have a bak, barons ported manifold and HK Xcellerator pipes. I am seriously thinking about putting the stock stage three pipes back on for awhile and was wondering what set-up I'd need using a Barons jet kit. Or can't it be done until I get the 35 pilot and 165 main, and when I do get them how should the needle be set up? I assume like it shows in the parts catalog but I don't know for sure and neither did the shop. Guess I am not surprised as they missed the deformed diaphram for 1 1/2 years. The other observation we made, the black slide plate in the carb throat actually moves up and down now when the throttle is turned, we never saw that before.<br><br>Post edited by: Loobie, at: 2005/06/10 22:46 |

Glad you finally found it. It's usually the simple things. 
At least you know your carb is clean. 
If you go back to stock pipes with a BAK, then you should go to the 35 pilot. You may be able to stay with the 170 if you move the clip up, but I'd probably go with a smaller main also. Maybe try a 167.5.
Jets are cheap and you now can probably take the carb apart blindfold.

Great to hear the problem is over Loobie. Troubleshooting isn't too difficult as long as you follow a path and do things one at a time, you'll usually find the problem..  |
