I am a die hard Dodge man but re-inforce the tailgate cables they have a very bad habit of collecting water and rusting inside that rubber wrap on the cable, huge dent in my tailgate from one of those tool boxes you mount to the inside of the tail gate. Not sure about the weight on the tailgate, I would angle and try to put as much of the bike as I could in the bed.

Any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction: I SERVED IN THE UNITED STATES NAVY. John F. Kennedy Aug. 1963

I did exactly that. I had an 05 Ram and ran it up my motocross ramp that I bought from Harbor Freight. I have a pretty steep incline to my driveway which helped a ton. I call it my V2 Rocket Launch pad.

Blackwidow ramps could save your A**.
Their 40 inches wide so you can ride up without possibly
tipping over. They run about $300 though, also reinforce
the cables as prev. mentioned. I know a guy who added chains
for safety.
Goodluck,
Chris

Please, tie the ramp to your truck before loading/unloading your bike. I've seen them fall off when loading, and it ain't purty. Like this:Video

I saw what was going to happen before he even started the engine on that first video. You can't fix stupid.

If you're loading a bike as heavy as our Roadstars, then you may damage your tailgate.
Half ton pick up tailgates are only rated to hold like 400 - 500 lbs, probably why others are warning you about the cables. Our *'s are around 750 lbs. If it's possible, you could remove the tailgate, then load it at an angle to fit it in a short bed.
Just be careful, we don't want you to be a statistic or one of those guys on youtube.

I recommend a double wide ramp or a solid plank SECURED to the ramp and the truck that you can walk up while you slowly power the bike up the ramp. Riding up is too dangerous....

I used to haul my Kawasaki Concours in the bed of my Chevy S10 with the rear wheel on the tailgate with no problems & it weighed about 675 lbs wet. I actually hauled it from St Louis, MO to Tupelo, MS after buying it on eBay and didn't have any problems other than a tie-down strap breaking on me about 5 miles out & almost losing the bike over the side! After a new set of tie-downs courtesy of the closest Wal-Mart, I made it the rest of the way safely! So surely a full-sized Dodge Ram can handle a Roadie!
