Did you have to have the throttle cables custom made or did the harley ones fit your bike? And what did you do about clutch cable or are you still using the stock control for the clutch and only used the electrics.

Danny, I went to Phats Performance Parts and ordered the bastard cables from Barnett from them... I tried to make the HD cables work, but that didnt go very good... then the guys at Phats said they could have them made with no issues... you do have to let them know which HD contol boxes you have (push in or screw in), if you want 90* end up top or a 130* end... all the rest is Road Star specs including length and carb and clutch end... it really wasnt that bad... when I got my new cable last week, I did notice they started using a new and improved end system on the HD side... the same applied for the brake line too...
for the electrics, you just have to convert all the negative outputs(Yamaha) to positive outputs(HD)...

OK, I just hope Yamaha is reading this too! Maybe they will start to make more after market parts that fit a variety of bikes and parts we can afford to buy to customize our Roadstars.
So far I have NO Harley parts on my R*, but that doesn't mean I won't. I like the looks of their trunks and fairings. I know that WOC has some nice trunks and fairings too, but not quite the same quality.

Yamaha is making a name for themselves, a name that is solid, one that other bikers don't sneer at so much anymore. Many other companies have had to do the same. It takes a while to over come the "American made" ideal. I loved my Toyota 4-Runner, and I ran with some really big Fords and Chevys. I could go anywhere that they did and many times I had to give one of them a ride to get tools or parts. I was president of several 4 wheel drive clubs both in the US and in Iceland.

I am the kind of guy who buys what I like, and what works. If I want to modify it, I do what I like. If a HD part, Honda, Indian, Victory or what ever fits and looks good, and that's the look I want, then that's what I do.

HD is just a name that WE made FAMOUS.

Hd parts on my bike could happen, I have some that sure look like some of theirs....like the King sportster style tank thats going on this winter.

Fact is no HD you wouldn't have the Road Star. Glad they led, now they can follow.

I put H-D parts on my bike where appropriate. When I use them, it's because I like the style and they're cheaper than Star parts. I hate to say it, but I've started thinking of them on the same level as J&P, Kuryakyn, Showchrome etc. just another brand name...
