2008 Roadstar 2 Years, 5 Months ago
Hi all. I am new to Roadstar Clinic and as of right now do not own the 2008 Roadstar referred to in this thread. I am seriously considering buying this bike, but I have read many conflicting reports on the Roadstar. Some have said the bike has plenty of power and will run or outrun most Harleys and other posts I have read say that the RS is severely underpowered. The particular bike I am looking at has Vance & Hines Longshots. I would appreciate any comments and direction I can get. I test drove a 2007 RS, but that one was carburated. Not sure if that is a good comparison to the 2008 with FI. Thanks in advance.

jmf:

The 2008 FI has plenty of power. But, if street racing Harleys is your only criteria for buying (or not buying) a Road Star, then this may not be the right kind of bike for you.

I've just never raced on a 750lb cruiser, so that's probably not much help to you...

First off

Second you will get a very bias'd opinion here towards the Roadstar. An 08 with FI is sweet. Bone stock against a bone stock fatboy or heritage the R* will come out on top. A new harley has a 96" motor the R* has a 102" motor...do the math... Really it depends on what you want if you really want a Harley don't "settle" for a R* if you are looking for a great customizable, dependable, and inexpensive crusier get a Roadstar.

Hope that helps

Steven

As a very satisfied rs owner, I know that what I have always enjoyed ,is a bike that I could adjust to my personal style at the moment. I have owned about every type, this rs has the ability to morph with my individual riding attitudes and style and performance expectations. MY experience has been very possitive. I am down to 1 single bike for the first time in many, many years. And by the way my current style of bike is a "sleeper " RS. plenty of bike to work with, take the money you saved on hd and do some mods, your cookie cutter hd buds won't like it, but my short experience says they will fear it!!!!

Mine is a carbed '06. Even though I have done a few minor tweeks to make it more efficient (airbox, manifold porting, correct jetting) the FI model should have more power. That being said... until my Roadie I was H-D only and the Roadie fits me better, rides better and has more power.
I can't see you being disappointed in an '08 Roadie.

I loved the R* from the time they came out. When I first rode one, I could not believe the torque it had. Mine is also carburated, but the throttle response still makes me smile. Good Luck.

I own an 08 R* and I can tell you it has plenty of power and at half the price of the HD you can use the money you save and very easly make your bike into any look you want and add enough power to it, if you think you need more, to make any one happy and still have money left over!! You will be very happy with R*.

I've had my '08 R* for over a year now and I love it. Plenty of power with BAK and Dragster Long pipes and super dependable. The EFI works great. I put on Ultimate seats and it is comfortable all day long. Not bragging but I could have bought about any bike I wanted, but after doing the homework and test riding some, I bought the R* Silverado S. Plan on keeping it a long time!
