full wiring diagram 4 Years, 3 Months ago
Anybody know where I can find a full wirirng diagram? I have the manual but can't really read the colors with any kind of confidence (bad copy, bad eyes).

Because I'm an idiot I didnt think of it until just now but I have a plotter here at work and I can print off the wiring diagram on 24x36 and in color too if I can find a diagram. I would love to be able to do that and then tack it up on the wall of the garage for reference as I work. Brilliant! Only way later considering how many wires I am trying to deal with right now

so a little help?

It is on the last page of the service manual. It has the color code, legand and all that. That is a great idea I had to you copy chunks of it paste them into word and print them out so I could read it myself. Bet you could do what you plan and sell them to blind old farts like me.

Ok, with the dash loose and the wires pluged in, use a volt meter set to a 12 volt range or greater. Meter with the positive lead from the Green wire at the connector to Ground(frame). This will likely be zero if your fuel tank has sufficient fuel. Drain some gas to get it on reserve. Meter again the same place. With this reading, I can get you where you need to be.
Alternately before draining gas, meter from the sending unit, Black/blue to ground. This should be the voltage applied to the LED when the sending unit sees low fuel. By the looks of the diagram, this will end up being a 12V LED but the voltage reading will varify this. The diagram does not show a current limiting resistor or voltage.

Is anyone able to get to the wiring diagram posted in the link? I get a 404 error. This would be a valuable tool for working on our wiring. Thanks

for the 1600
http://www.scribd.com/doc/63932766/Roadstar-xv1600-servicemanual1602082008

there are some very slight wire differences between the 1600 and 1700

the way the entire 1700 supplement works, it only shows the differences between the 2 engines (bikes), if it is not in the supplement, then the 1600 manual is used for the 1700 bike.
