I just saw a big segment on the news about all the recalls being done on the cars. Since it is hot topic now in the media I wonder if we could do anything to make the Roadstars gas puking problem visible?

There should already be complaints on it there. Along with the SVS issue. It's been talked about before.

Musky,

I know it's been talked to death here but there has been no assistance from Yamaha. I was just wondering out loud if there was anyway we could get the media hold of it to maybe get Yamaha to finally fix it.

I used to be on a board for a particular sports car and the members were always yelling for recalls. You have to be careful as these things are really numbers driven. Lets face it the guys on here care deeply and passionately about our bikes just as we did about our cars on the other board.

We talk about things that affect some of us but does it hold true across the breadth of Road Star owners? That is always the question. Obviously the tranny recall did on the 1600's.
Now our carb may be a piece of crap (and they are) but do enough of them puke to recall? I do remember quite clearly that on the sports car board there had been a number of engine failures and curiously enough each one of them had been modified in some way.

I do think if there is one item you can point to on the Roadie it would be the carb (especially since it may be part of the SVS issue).

Since the title of your thread is NHTSA I thought you wee talking about filing a complaint there.

You need to prove it's a big enough issue to mess with. What percentage of Road Stars have the problem. Is it a safety hazard? How many people have been injured or killed because of it. What causes it. You have to hit them with verifiable facts. Until you have those there isn't much anyone will do. And even then they probably won't until there's a few high profile lawsuits.

keep in mind, what appears to seem like a big issue with gas puking, it is quite low, well less than 1%. yamaha produces about 20k roadies a year, so lets just say 200k bikes, 1% would be 2k bikes. trust me, in 5yrs of being on the roadstar forum, and that forum has about triple the membership of this one. I have read every post on carb and jetting, technical and problems folders there. it doesn't even come close to even a few hundred on this issue.
