Exhaust Wrap Tips? 2 Years, 3 Months ago
I'm getting ready to wrap my pipes this weekend, are there any tips I should keep in mind that you guys can think of?

I heard to soak the wraping in water before I start, is this true/recomended?

Thanks for your help.

for sure soak the wrap, take your time and you will get frustrated! I also recommend shooting them with the wrap paint afterwards to keep the color right.

i just did my xs650 pipes the other night, i used warm water in a bucket and tossed the roll in there and wrapped it from outa the bucket, helped alot with stretch and gets all the fiberglass dust down. first thing, wear gloves! unless you like to itch! pull as tight as you can get and try even overlaps of 1/4" (harder then it sounds lol). i started from back end of the pipe up to the flange so the edges wouldn't be facing wind, but i doubt it would matter either way.

well my pipes didn't have heat-shields, i would leave them off. since thr wrap is now the heat shield. doubt it makes any diff on jetting.

Re:Exhaust Wrap Tips? 2 Years, 3 Months ago
Well my pipes are V&H Short Shots, the ones with the chrome heat sheilds. I'm having the sheilds powder coated gloss black this week and I want to wrap the pipe (under the sheilds) to help keep the heat down on the powder coat. A buddy of mine with the same pipes had his heat sheild powder coated and the coating started to slightly change colors. It was suddle, but I could notice. He had them re-powder coated, but this time he wrapped the pipes and hasn't had a problem since. That is why I'm doing the wrapping.

I also painted some trim peaces gloss black. That, together with the black heat sheilds should help even out my black front end. I'll post some pictures when I'm done. Probally be next week sometime.

Thanks for the tips guys, much appreciated...

get them ceramic coated something like jet hot then you wont have to worry about heat at all. also within seconds of turning off the bike you will be able to touch the header (i don't suggest doing so)lol it works that good!!!
