JUmp Start Error 2 Years, 2 Months ago
Hey guys, i have 2005 R*. I was a way for a while and the battery died on me. i tried jump starting the bike with a charger at 12v 9A. i heard a clicking noise coming from the right front near the break, the chorome box that says "YAMAHA" on it. I hit the start button and it would crank but not start, the clicking got faster and after attempting to start about 4 to 6 times it stopped clicking and now won't do anything. When the charger is attached all the lights and gauges go on but when i hit the start button it does noting. what damage could i have caused?

might need a bit more then 9amps to start it. which is why you are hearing the click.

edit: just reread your post. it does crank over so my logic is wrong.

check fuses and its not good to use a charger to try and start the bike. unless it has a crank option on it which is usally like 30+ amps

Use jumper cables off your car battery, but make sure the car is NOT running. Should work just fine.

Hey there Yoges....
First things first...

Now... Check out this thread... (click here) For some valuable info on getting a Roadie with a dead battery to start..
Oh, and a couple of other things...
You're better off taking the battery out of the bike to charge it... (or, at least, completly disconnecting it...) And, if your battery is original for the bike... It was on borrowed time... two years ago...

Welcome to the Clinic and the exspansive world of Road*...

Yeah, I said exspansive not "expensive"... (Unless we're talking about chrome...)

if your 'dead' battery was outside it could have frozen and may be junk and will not hold a charge.

you can leave an auto running with a 13.8V regulated charging system it wont make any difference, just don't start the jump vehicle while connected to the bikes battery.

even if you get it fired up, put the charger on the battery in 2A or trickle state for an overnight, then leave it to rest for a day, and if it wont crank enough to start then it's time for a new one.

IF you have a V meter, measure it after resting from being charged. if it isn't 12.5 - 12.7V (and you checked to make sure the plates are covered with electrolyte), then you have a battery issue.

Do NOT connect the - cable to the battery. Connect the + side to the battery and the connect the - cable to a unpainted bolt on the frame.
