mustang or corbin? 2 Years, 2 Months ago
After 500 miles this weekend the wife and I came to the conclusion the stock seats are not bad but not great so I can feel the bank account draining. Anyway I am looking for suggestions for nice long ride seats for both with driver back rest. Any help would be great thanks guys

My father in law picked up a new Mustang seat with all the goodies for his Suzuki Boulevard and hated it. After hearing how good the Mustang seat was he was extremely disappointed. I have heard rave reviews about anything to do with Corbin seats. I am looking to change my stock seat on my 05 Midnight Star and could use some advice myself. Any thoughts from the group?

I have a Corbin Dual Tour seat and although they are hard they conform to your butt and are very nice to ride on.I haven't had any problems. Ken

We couldn't leave the dealership without the Mustang seat SHE picked out. Notice the emphasizing on the wife. No complants all the way to Sturgis and back from NorCal. I didn't complain either.

After about 30 minutes I felt the stock seat was like sitting on a cinder block.
I bought a Mustang seat with drivers back rest and now I can ride all day and not feel uncomfortable. It is firm, however after a few minutes I almost forget about the seat. It is that comfortable.
I have never sat on a Corbin so I can't speak for or against but I am happy with my Mustang seat.

My experience exactly. The Mustang came on my slightly used '07 R*S. It looks a bit more "aged" than the rest of the bike, and I suspect it came off another R* before it was put on mine. It is comfortable for both me and my wife. We did 700 miles in 3 days FL a few weeks ago, and no complaints. My wife took one look at the stock seat on several other R* at the dealership and said, "No way..." Mine came with the driver backrest also, and it is nice support for my 57 yr. old back.

seats are a subjective topic, whats good for one butt, may not suit yours. Even sitting on a seat for a few minutes may not tell ya much. When I got my Saddlemen seat, used it for 3 days, then took it off, hated it! But I needed something to lower me in the saddle due to the pipes I was running at the time. a couple months later, and after thinking how I wasted my hard earned monies, decided to try the seat again with the commitment of using it for a month. well, about 3 weeks into it, and about 1200 miles, was great. It just took that amount of time for this lightweight (150lbs)to break the seat in. seat is about 3yrs old now, and just got it back from warranty work, the pan had cracked in a couple of places, which I found out is a lifetime warranty, cost to me to box and ship was about 23 bucks, they even replaced one chrome stud that I knocked off.

Mustang and Corbin seats are very very different with respect to initial feel. Corbins really require a break in period of about 1000 miles or so. I don't know if the same is true for the Mustang, but based on postings here I suspect not. I really like the Corbins, but the the company seems less dedicated to its customers than it used to be, and Mustang seems to be really going after the customer service model.

Most folks with Corbins that don't work all the way through the break in period tend to find them very uncomfortable (too hard).

I love my Corbin, and the ones I used on previous bikes. But find it hard to recommend them based on the customer service issues and the common initial reactions from some folks who have posted here. But I will keep using them and would buy again.

You really need to find some friends with these two seats on their bikes and sit on them for a little while. I have loaned mine out to friends for test rides in the past. That way they got a feel for being in it for a while.

I bought a Corbin. Tried it for maybe 10 minutes and sent it right back... absolutely hated it! It was so hard, every vibration came right through it and straight up my back. If I'd wanted a messager, I'd have gone to a cheap motel and put a qtr in the box on the bed.

I ride with an Ultimate now. World's better than the Corbin, much better than stock, but it's not Nirvana, or anything like that. I still want off after a few hours.

I also have a Saddleman stilletto for when I remove my bags and backrest. I haven't gone any great time or distance on it yet, but I find it to be quite acceptable so far.
