how do you remove stock grips 2 Years, 2 Months ago

I'm trying to install new grips on an 07, got the right one installed okay, but I can get the left stock one off. I watched a video on the web they showed a hex screw in the end cap but I don't see one. How do you get the end cap off.

On my 2000 I just needed to spray some lube under the grip. I pried up slightly enough to get the small tube from the WD-40 under the grip and sprayed it in a couple spots. Then it twisted right off. Make sure you clean the bar off really well with some prep solvent before installing the new grip. Also to help with installing the new one get some hairspray and spray it on the bar and inside the new grip and then quickly slip it into place. The hairspray will act as a lube to help slip the new grip on, but once it dries it acts like a glue to keep it from slipping around. Do it quick though because it doesn't take long to dry.

Mine is an 05. I just changed my handlebars to a nostalgia bar.
The stock one had a hex screw for the bar-end weights. Once I took that off I had to use some muscle to just wiggle the rubber grip off from the handlebar. It was kinda hard.
The new handlebar does not have the threads for the end weights, so now all I have is a hollow end. I will start another thread to ask you all for options.
Good luck SCTNMART!

The left is glued and depending how much it can be tough. Try a small screw driver and as crazy as it sounds fabric softner and hot water not just warm at 2part fabricsoftner and 1 part water. Or some use WD or similar. You will probable destroy it if it is glued heavy. You can also try rubber strap wrench.

I just cut the left one off as I don't expect to ever use it again The end weights just unscrewed.
I took two 2 1/2 ounce lead fishing sinkers and put two in each bar end. So far so good.
Kury has now come out with heavier bar ends.

I have had to cut off grips in the past. They never seem to come off cleanly, although that WD-40 trick sounds nifty. I know some of my buddies who ride dirt bikes inject silicone caulk into the bar ends (after suitably plugging at the desired depth with a piece of rag). It gives weight and vibration-damping. Of course, you can't do that with internal wires..

I just did my o3 last week. The chrome end of the grip was just pressed into the bar, I was able to get a good grip on it and twist real hard and it came out. The rubber was glued on, I took a long thin screwdriver and slid it up under the rubber, I then just kind of worked it back and forth all the way around the grip. Then I was able to work it off by pulling and twisting. The front chrome piece is not glued..Didn't damage the grip at all

Just get some compressed air between the rubber and the bar and the grip will fly off.

Well I got the left grip off, it seemed easier today then yesterday. It came off smoothly with out cutting it off. So if anybody needs a pair of stock grips from an 07 that I feel could be used, the end caps have no scratch's on them, you can have them. Just help me with the shipping. pm me
