Can you replace just the lexan? I might be interested in that route since my chrome is fine.

As your coating is damaged anyways why not just polish off and then buff up the windshield. You don't really need the coating.

I thought about doing that but after three hours, a course rubbing compound, and destroying a $20 mini powerball I only got about a 8x8 area clean. I think a $100 would be well spent on a replacement. I actually thought about cutting it down really short and painting the back side black. Kind of like a custom fairing. I might try that this evening. I'll post a pic if its not too bad.

I have always used Pledge on my windshields. When I get a new one I wax it good with pledge, and use a soft cotton terry cloth. Afterwords When you clean the bugs just spray it on let it sit for a minute or two and they will slide right off. Used on Winshield on my Agcat (airplane, you can't even imagine the bugs and chem it gets on it.) for years.. if you get some light scratches go to your nearest Airport to the FBO, and they should have the plexiglass cleaner/polish for sale.. Plexi, does not react to well to foreign chemicals so be careful what you use... Butch

Last year I picked up one of those cheapie headlite lens restoration kits, after doing the car I used it on a visor for a full faced helmet. It came out great. I figured I'd use it on the bike windshield too eventually. There are loads of these kits on the market and it seems they would work on any clear plastic. Many of them start out around 800 grit for deep scratches and work up to a fine polish.

What i have done that helps a lot is to get the windscreen clean as possible and if some light scatches are visable i very lightly use some semichrome to clean up light scratches and or old bug stains off thre shiled, dont use too much presure as already suggested of you can damage the screen.

1st time you try semichrome go off to corner/area to do alittle test rub to get a feel for it where if you goof up it wont be readily seen.

Then i apply a couple coats of raindance car wax to the shield which doesnt allow the bug crud to hold on as well and offers more proptection in general from debries small stuff.

Then when i get home from each ride i taake 1 minute using an old but clean cotton t-shirt with some sprayway window cleaner to remove the bugs/dirt from the wax coating, takes approx 1 mins to clean both sides of windsrceen.

Its key to not to let the old bug juice build sit on the shild for a wks at a time.

I clean & re-wax the screen every 2-3 wks which takes less then 10 mins to do.

Scott
