not hard...just don't over torque, it will cause a leak. Pay attention to how the levers come out. It goes in the nsame way, otherwise it will measure half a tank all the time...

also keep an eye out on the fiber washers they use on the 2 bolts, my were stuck to the bottom and when I went to remove them, one tore all to pieces. I didn't even drain all the gas, maybe a half gal left, turned it on the side to get it out. I found it you keep an eye in which way the wires face, it goes in same way, if not mistaken, wires face toward center of tank. also examine the new rubber gasket thats on there, my first new one had a very slight crink to it, and leaked

Hi Guys. I agree with all that is said.
I started having a problem with my sending unit late last year. I filled the tank full and my fuel light started blinking and the indication was intermittent.
I recently took the sender out and thought that the float shaft was sloopy and loose in its pivot point, the spring clip style washer seemed loose. I used a biker's vest pin lock on the shaft to hold it tighter and it took out some of the sloppyness. I also bent the fingers that slide on the contacts to help make them have a better contact. I tested the unit's ohms and they were in spec.
I still have the same problem. I have heard that the contacts need to be cleaned.
Do you know how to clean them and with what cleaner.

the flat ckt board you can use a pencil eraser, it's the fingers that you have to be careful with. I cleaned mine, but failed a month later. I gave up, and this was a new unit as well, lasted all of 5 months. The blinking is driving me crazy tho, I just need to get a resistor and stick it in the connector. The needle will be a false read, but the blinking will stop

Well that sounds like it may work. My car mechanic friend says that a tarnish builds up from the fuel. I will try the eraser idea. Sorry to hear yours was new and it quite. I priced a new one and it is $94.00

Erb, prices on the sender units have jumped. I just checked Yamhasportscenter.com and they were the cheapest I've found by four bucks at $61.50. Most dealers are listing over $90 now.

I guess they figured out how many of these are going bad. Demand is up, so are the prices.

PS. I also noticed that there is a new part number being listed as a replacement for the previous number. Maybe they fixed the problem. (Probably not).

Ratl.
