Well maybe since all the lifters needed replacement in the 1st place possible one of the cam lobs was already worn past the point of no return .

And when talking flat tappet type cam/lifters if you place a new lifter on an already worn out/shot cam lobe it will deteriorate very quickly which the mechanic didnt cause in the 1st place.

But a good wrench should have inspected the cam lobe/s and if they were worn past point of no return he should have told you that and not just installed new lifter/s on cam lobes worn past point of being used & thats where he would be at fault in tha situation.

Ask him if he inspected the cam lobes for excessive wear prior to installing new lifter/s & also if he used a proper moly type assembly lube on the bottom faces of lifters that interface with cam lobes and changed the oil to one with proper zddp lvl for protecting FT cams/lifters.

Also, prior to installing new lifters was the prior owner of the bike if bought it used and you running a motorcyle specific oil with proper zddp lvl to properly protect the flat tappec cam & lifter from scuffing/excessive wear etc?

Or if you or prior owner were running a std pass car oil like for ex mobil 1 syn 15w-40 or chevrons delo 15w-40 (not shell rotella-it has too low of zddp lvl post last zddp reduction on 1/2007)that has a known good zddp lvl of approx 1300-1400ppm for proper protection? Asking becasue most over the counter pass car oils sold to lack the proper zddp lvls required for safe flat tappet cam operation. Thats due to gove/emissions regs for 100k+ miles service life from cat converters with zddp can interfear with so it was reduced to lvls below whats required for safe FT cam operation in bikes and car motors using FT cams.

These are things you need to consider if you find in fact the cam is worn out and in that case i would replace all cam/s and lifters and use proper assembly lube for FT cam/lifter breakin and an oil with proper 1200-1400ppm zddp next time arround to help ensure you dont wear out any more lifters/cam again.

Any FYI,most FT cam mfgs rec not using syn oil for breakin, its fine afterworn but not for breakin. Thats due to the syn oils being so slick that the lifters dont rotate properly on cam lobes for breakin which can lead to cam failure diurring breakin per info o have recieved from the cam mfgs in the past on this subject and motor oil research i was doing for another forum at the time.

Sounds like the rockers were not adjusted properly when the lifters were replaced.
