Shell gas 2 Years, 2 Months ago
I just got back from my first trip of the year. Rode the Ozarks in northern Arkansas. I don't have preferences on gas other than i try and only buy 100% gas.(no ethenol)Does anybody seem to get better milage using shell gas? At my last fill,I filled up at a shell station and it seems there was a definite increase. Seems i remember somebody talking about it in a thread. I'll have to try it again at the next fillup.

I think you will find that it's not the brand, but rather the mix. A lot of stations are useing an ethanol mix year round now. Some brand stations like Shell or Chevron will switch back to pure gas during the summer months. Well, anyway, around here that's what's happening.

I too find that I get significantly better fuel mileage on my * as well as my cars and truck when I can get non-ethanol fuel.

Ethanol; less mileage, damaging to some cars systems, it's replace edible food crops thereby raising the price of feed for cattle and therefore meat at the supermarket and I get to subsidize it with taxes. Great idea!

I don't buy Shell Oil products, because it is all imported OIl... Most Shell Stations around here have ethanol in their fuel.... as for as gas mileage goes, any fuel without ethanol will give better gas mileage. My old Venture Royal will not run very good on ethanol it..stalls at stop lights, and runs rich.... have not put any in my Roadstar and don't intend to! Just my 2 cents worth...Butch

I haven't run Shell gas since about 1973. Gave me bad performance then and I just haven't dared try it again. I wouldn't buy Shell unless I was in the middle of no where and my R* was running on fumes.
Not that there is anything wrong with it I would just prefer to not run it in any of my vehicles.
As far as gas mileage and better performance you will normally get better of both in the colder months of the year. The air is thicker and therefore makes for more air flow into the scooters lungs.

We had a post a few months back related to shell gas and a lot of folks seemed to think ran well..It's the only station in my town so I don't have too much choice, I did find a offbeat station about 25 miles away that offers 100% gas and I stop there when I can. but they are a bit more expensive...Haven't had any problems with the shell tho...

There are plenty of choices here where I am but only Shell has no ethanol so that's where I fill the bikes up.

the new shell gas uses nitrogen, and my bike runs better and gets better mileage with it than any other gas from around town.

well, here goes another 2cents worth. ethanol and methanol are both alcohol and they both are "scavengers." that is, they absorb some materials, such as water, some rubber materials, and some aluminum compounds. older motorcycles, like old BMWs, Moto-Guzzis, et cetera, may react poorly to alcohol. however, in modern bikes (and the R* is a modern bike) a 10 percent mix of alcohol is not a problem. methanol can be problem if it is in high concentrations, but methanol is not common today - in fact, it is increasingly rare. I avoid methanol, and the only place i have had any past problem is in the Midwest (Iowa, Nebraska, and some other methanol producing areas, but that was a long time ago.) a gasoline/ethanol mix up to 10 percent is NO PROBLEM in any modern motorcycle. period - end of story. i am frequently in Albuquerque, and it is "typical" of big American cities in the winter. Ethanol gas is sold exclusively, by law, in the colder times of the year. this is done to "improve" air quality. personally, i don't want to breath it if i can't see it, but then i am not much for vodka either. HOWEVER, in many years of riding, gasohol has never hurt one of my bikes - not my Beemers, not my Guzzis, not my Wings, and not my R* and, mileage is not something to worry about. it will be about the same with or without alcohol. factually, the bike will run slightly cooler on gasohol, but just a tiny bit. of course, forty plus years of riding probly doesn't count for sh*t. as i said, just my 2 cents worth.

Actually I am a fan of Shell. Here in Iowa we have (usually) 3 frades to choose from - 87 octane with no alcohol, 89 octane with 10% alcohol and 93 octane. I always get the 87 octane for obvious reasons and my bike gets better mileage and seems to run smoother on Shell than any other brand. I think I have tried them all. JMHO
