Man that sucks big time. I have a 2001 and installed a Barnetts spring and plate kit and while i was in there i replaced the oil pump gear to the new version. My gear was in good shape but after doing this, and seeing how easy it really was, I dont see why everyone dont do this and make that change...even better than that i dont understand why Yamaha dont do a recall on that part.

I agree. I don't understand why that wouldn't be recalled. This could have caused major damage to my engine. But I think I might be ok. We'll see soon enough.

Good luck with that one, It doesn't take much to scar up the bearings, but it explains why your lifter was going flat. Did ya get the old gear out yet?

Yea got the gear out. But the two pieces that broke off the back.....Looks like they fell down to the screen where the oil is pulled back from the crankcase. The top of the screen inside the pump. Does that sound right. Didn't have a magnet small enough to make it past the piece the gear turns. Hope there is an easy way to get them out.

Called Yamaha and they said my 2001 R* had the transmission recall done in April 2004. And since the dealership who did the work is no longer in business I need to open it up and see if the oil pump gear was replaced or not. But I guess then it will also be a good time to do the Barnett clutch spring upgrade.

Quistion I have do I go with the Optional Heavier Duty Spring Upgrade or just use the ones that come with the plate?

I have a 99 R* Silverado. I am the 3rd owner and had the trans recall done last fall. I had the Oil Pump Gear changed out for the newer HD version during the recall service. Old gear lookrd perfect but I had read that there was a problem with earlier gears so I wanted it changed out for the newer HD version. All is well and it runs perfectly.

Does anyone know the old oil pump gear part number? I pulled this part number off the Yamaha website today 4WM-13360-00-00 and want to make sure I get the new one if I need to order it.

Thanks.

I don't think they sell the old one anymore. When I pulled up the parts lists on one of the sites online, they had the old part # w/ a line beside it telling the new part #. But good luck, my part wont be in till next week. Guy says there are only ten in the counry, all in the cali yami supply wearhouse. So have to be frekin patient. But could be in a hurry just to find out I can't ride without buying a big bore kit. Well see.

Did more research and found out the 4WM-13360-00-00 is the old PN and 5YU-13360-00-00 is the new PN.

kpdustin9 did you get the pieces of the old pump gear out?
