As most of you have probably already noticed, Sam Nehme and his crew at BMS Choppers have agreed to be interviewed by the clinic's membership. We have not attempted this type of community interview until now, so please be patient with us as we learn our way into it.

By way of introduction, if you have not already done so, please take a moment to look over the article about them on our front page. They do a lot more than chopper builds and represent a real opportunity for us to all learn some cool stuff about upcoming projects and potentially get some new ideas.

Please do not post in this thread unless you have a question for BMS. We will keep bumping this thread up over the next week or so to allow our less frequent visitors a chance to participate. If you would like to discuss this interview or have questions for me or any other members of the staff, please start a new thread.

Posts in this thread that are not questions for BMS will be deleted to keep it clean and easy to follow. The resulting responses and the questions asked (including who asked the question) will be compiled into an article that will be published in our "Builders" news section.

The rules are simple:
1. BMS will be presented with a list of all of our questions after we close this thread and lock it, and will get to choose which ones they want to answer.

2. There are no stupid questions. These guys do it all. But remember #1.

3. Questions do not have to be limited to Road Stars. BMS has broad experience across many different manufacturer lines.

4. If you are thinking about one of their products, please let them know in your question. We want them to find value for their time spent participating.

5. Questions don't have to be limited to bike customization, but should stay on the topic of things related to their business as both Broward Motor Sports (Yamaha Dealer) and BMS Choppers.

QUESTION: I am in the process of planning my next build and am looking at a couple of options that I see you guys do a lot of. One is De-horning the bike. But would also like to be able to stick a suction cup b-pad on the back once in a while to take a passenger. How do you go about supporting your fender subframes for dehorned bikes so that they can still hold a passenger? Where do they mount up without the horn?

If I want to do a mild rake job (5-6 degrees)on a stock framed bike, is it feasible to rake the neck only. Options are very limited as to raked trees that support standard equipment (stock lights, passing lamps, ect). If one were to run a larger diameter front tire to bring the trail back in line, how is the handling effected?

QUESTION: When we modify our bikes, how does that affect the warranty? I would assume that unmodified parts would still be covered, but we occasionally get a post talking about a dealer refusing to warranty a bike that has aftermarket parts. Is there a Yamaha policy on this, or is it left up to the individual dealer?

Question: From your experience, when do you see a trade-off between handling and looks in regards to rear tire width.

First off fantastic shop and incredible builds. I have been to the store a couple times and didn't want to leave.

Question #1: With the new bagger craze are there any plans for a build of that type for BMS?

Question #2: As a long time biker this is a weird question for me to ask, but is my one complaint about the Road Star. How do you recommend checking the oil level? Even the way that Yamaha recommends will give a different reading each time. The Road Star Clinic's popular opinion is basically the "put 4 quarts in and forget about it" technique, but I just can't swallow the fact that there isn't a more precise method of checking the level between oil changes.

How can I be nervous, you are not even here in front of me... but as far as I've seen your shop is one of the greats. Easily up there, creatively with the top guys and seems like your business model is dead on . So, I've got to ask, what is the best kind of oil to run in my Roadstar? Kidding, that's for the RSC membership to snicker to.
My real question is: Being a force in the industry, at what point does a bike become "custom" instead of "metric" I hate that term. How many parts do I have to make in my garage to qualify as "custom"? I admire your bikes, V-Twin seems to love them, too. And I wish you all the best and good fortune, though I'm sure you make your own.

Regarding Air Ride Suspensions...

Do you recommend them for people who actually ride their bikes frequently and for long distances?

Are there any dangers of handling issues if they are not set up properly?
