Yea if your bike never pukes, for $40 there is your fix. Use dielectric grease on the connectors when working on your bike.

it never pukes or anything, was running like a champ. i like the grease idea, will make sure to apply some.

Strongly suggest you loose the pump, the mod is less expensive than getting a new one, and you'll never have that problem again...
Also, I would not buy any used electrical item unless I knew who I was getting it from.....

I rspectfully disagree that it's cheaper going pumpless if you do all the required mods to turely have it perf correctly not running out off fuel if you run it hard thru the gears like if you keep the stock fuel petcocok to avoid spending the $ for a new one.

let's add that up.

* Larger Suzuki hi flow needle & seat approx $35-40 or more.

* New pingel petcock approx $90-100 +.

* New hi flow fuel filter $15-20

* New fuel hose $10

Thats roughly $140-$160

How's that cheaper then a new f-pump @ $125-$130 or the used one thats supposed to work fine that was offered in this post for $40?

And thats also not including the mult hr's it take to remove the carb to install & adj new needle & seat then reinstall the carb,time to remove the fuel tank to do the light grinding/fileing mod to the fuel tank to accept the aftermarket new hi flow pingel fuel petcock hoping you got it right for no fuel leaks afterword,and then to also dissassemble the fuel cap to do the vent mod -then reassemble it,then maybe install new fuel line/hose where applicable too not counting the time it takes totrack down all those goodies and read/study all the material /info/instructions on how to do all that stuf too.

You can replace a bad stock elec fuel pump on the R* in litterally 10 mins if you know what your doing or 15-20 mins if your not failure with it with no special tools.

And in reality how many times over the bikes life or the avg time someone owns a bike of this type these days would you have to replace the pump ? Very likely 1x at 10-20 mins labor/work time & $120 for the pump . And if your the unlucky guy that has 2 pumps go bad on same bike in time you own it then you spent 20-40mins mins changing out 2 f-pumps in over who knows maybe owning the bike 8-10yrs /40k-100k miles. Maybe even 3 bad f-pumps in in 100k miles at up to 60 mins labor over 8-10 yrs and $360 . Over a 10 yr period that work out to approx 6 mins labor & $36 yrly to avoid the pia of doing all the mods to go pumpless if you dont really need to.

But i realize there are some stubborn cases that really do need to go pumpless to fix carb puke ,i just talking about the cases where the carb pukes 1x here or there in extreem heat etc.

In a case like that i'd extend the overflow hose to keep fuel off the hot motor if it pukes for safety sake and then on hotter days either shut off fuel petcock a 1/4 mile or less just prior to stopping/shutting down to ensure there less fuel in float bowl on hot shutdown and or insulate the heck out the the entire fuel system which i know 1st hand helps because it stopped my bikes carb puking of the winter grade fuel so i know it helps that situation too.

But no matter how you cut it going pumpless if you really dont need to takes at least 3x-4x more time to do then changing out an f-ump and also the same if not a litle more money to do .

I have seen new f-pumps for the r* at $120-$130 and its easy to keep on board one of the bags just in case it decides to go by by and all you need is a few avg tools avail in bikes tool kit to change out a pump if need be .

Even though it looke like i am for keeping the elec pump i am not ,i just dont think its always needed to go pumpless to either fully correct ot at least significantly reduce carb puking with having to spend all the time/mrs it takes to takle going pumpless with the money part being a wash with if going pumpless being a little more vs a new fuel pump .

Or maybe keeping the pump could run little more time (another 10-20 mins)/money if your unlucky enough to have a 3rd f-pump go bad like 4-5 yrs later after the 2nd bad pump craps the bed . Now that is still a lot less time/hastle installing a 3rd pump in 8-10 yrs (60 mins all total installing 3 pumpsin 8-10yrs)then going pumpless but it is a few $ more spread out over 8-10 yrs to buy that 3rd new f-pump .

I'd be willing to be at least 1/2 or more of the prople currently owning R8's would have sold or moved up to a newer bike before they would have 2 let alone 3 new f-pumps go bad on the same bike.
And i am not talking about the small % of people putting on 40-50k miles yrly on their ride,i am talking the avg rider here tha puts on anywhere from 4k-5k to 8k-10k miles yrly.

Just my $.02 on that one.

I went pumpless and have not install the high flow pet cock. I will someday but partly because it looks cool! Yes going pumpless could be a little more $ and a lot more time BUT to me knowing I will not get stuck somewhere far away from home when the fuel pump dies is priceless. Plus I am good with wrenches so I really like tinkering with the bike. It is my after a bad work day therapy. Going pumpless is not for everyone but I did it and am very happy with it. Oh and I never did have a puking carb but I did hate the pump sound when i turned on the ignition.
