thanks that is very helpful.. should i use the 04 ais removal tech tip to do this? also if there is a leak how do i solve it? If i remember correctly them slip on were tight as heck to get on

Yes and no. The '08 is much easier to remove. Locate the AIS plumbing that is routed to your cylinder heads (2). Remove these and bolt on the cover plates that you bought from Baron's or MaxAir. Use Loctite "Blue" on these bolts. You will need to remove the chrome cover on the left side of the engine between the cylinders and unbolt one of the brackets to acces the AIS tube bolts in the rear cylinder. Now, unplug the AIS wiring harness (tape off the part that is still connected to the engine to keeep junk out)and unbolt the AIS unit (unbolt rectifier to get this done) and you are done! There is no hose (as on the '04) running to your carb 'cause you don't have a carb. Put all of the AIS parts in a box and put it on a shelf and forget it until you sell your bike. Give it to the next guy so he can put it on his shelf.
Do you have O2 sensors connected on your slip-ons? If not, this MAY be part of your problem. Some of you more experienced guys please comment on this issue. BTW: I have Yamaha Speedstar long drag pipes (very LOUD!) on my bike with the O2 sensors connected. No popping!

I left my AIS in place in case of warranty issues, but I disabled it by removing the rectifier, cutting the black rubberr hose in half putting a rubber plug from lowes on both ends and glueing the hose back together and reinstalling the rectifier. Works great. I have the Speedstar Dragster longs too, with a Speedstar (K&N) BAK. As others have said, get rid of the processer. The stock electronics adjust to the new parts just fine. Enjoy it's a great bike!

Did you buy the Cobra's new?
If so, don't accept the "your screwed" answer!
If you bought them used, it's always "buyer beware!" (read "your screwed"! ) and put the stock mufflers back on until you find something that works to your liking.

Even though some will continue to say you have to have a fuel processor, just for fun why not unplug it and plug it up stock and see what happens.

Unplug it and go riding. You'll get what we're talking about...
